art: One of Our Annual Traditions - Holiday Fun & Cheer December Challenge

The ActiveRain Holiday Fun and Cheer December Challenge inspired by both Carol Williams and Anna Banana Kruchten CRS CRB, Phoenix Broker prompted me to share one annual tradition that shows up on our Christmas tree. My dad Larry is a retired elementary school art teacher. He taught for 35 years in the Fulton (New York) School District. These days he still tinkers with arts and crafts. Each year he creates a handmade ornament for us. In this photo you can see samples of them (sorry, we were not motivated to put too many ornaments on the tree this year). Buildings, parks and roadways are often named after a person who had memorable influence and impact within a community. When my Dad retired I wanted to do more than just buy some gift - I wanted to establish a legacy to commemorate his impact on the lives of several generations of families within our community. I found a way to Pay It Forward for my high school alma mater and honor my Dad simultaneously. A Gift That Keeps Giving My wife Susan and I revealed a retirement gift to my Dad after 35 years of teaching elementary art in the Fulton (New York) (6 comments)
