compliance: Is Your Business Card Breaking the Law?

There is no shotage of laws and regulations that mortgage, real estate and related professionals must follow. However, some rules may not be so obvious. For example, did you know it's possible that your business card is breaking the law? A business card is considered by federal mortgage law to be a form of advertising. As such there are rules that must be followed to stay compliant. 1. Your name on your business card must match EXACTLY as how it is listed on your license. Regardless of whether you have 40 customers or 40 million customers (the number of debit and credit card account numbers that Target allowed to be exposed), a business has a responsibility to protect sensitive information.
For example, a small, 1-4 person mortgage broker office in Estero, Florida has just as much accountability to protect customer information as a huge company like Target. Fortunately, large companies can absorb the cost (2 comments)
