     An article published today in our National media discusses how the average home price across Canada has increased and is now sitting around $508,000.  That is half a million dollars.  Now this number is not a true reflection of most of Canada, as that number is significantly distorted by the Million dollar properties in Vancouver and Toronto markets.  Outside of those 2 markets, or even removing those 2 most high priced markets from the average would likely result in the real number falling to more like $300,000 average across the country.

I get phone calls and emails from people who live in various parts of the country asking about retiring to Lethbridge, or moving here to attend school or for employment relocation.  Our city is attractive compared to many other cities.  Our weather is superior, our economy a bit stronger and more diverse, our community friendly, and our real estate prices are affordable.  A basic single family home in Lethbridge will cost a buyer only about $250,000, which is about $1250/month mortgage payment.

I use a couple of different tools to monitor the ranking of many sites that I own.  I don't often bother checking them too regularly, but when I do I find it interesting to see which agents are ranking at the top.  In the past, I used to have the #1 ranked real estate website in my entire region and city.  When i switched my real estate brokerage that page disappeared and I ignored it for many years.

University of Lethbridge and the Lethbridge College attract thousands of students to the city each fall.  I believe the total number of students enrolled now is around 15,000 and I would estimate that at least half of those come from outside of the Lethbridge and move here just to attend school.

Currently there is a residential fire happening in the west Lethbridge community of Sunridge.  This tragic event is being made worse by tremendously high winds we are currently experiencing.  Fire and ambulance crews are on hand and are having a challenging time containing it.  There are 4 homes now on fire and a few more in harms way.
