nh: Stepping back in time at Calef's Country Store in Barrington, NH - 07/11/08 12:30 PM
Calef's Country Store is situated smack dab in the heart of Barrington, NH.  Visiting Calef's is like stepping back in time.  Calef's is a quintessential New England country store.  Many years have come and gone since it opened but not too much has changed since it was established in 1869.  Here you will find Good people, good service and even better food!  Everything from home made breads to several cheeses, various baked goodies, jams, jellies & relishes etc.  There is even old-fashioned penny candy.  Just like the old days, but it's not a penny any more.  ;-)  Grab the tongs and … (0 comments)

Crime Free Housing in Farmington NH?
In an article published in today's Fosters Daily Democrat (a Seacoast NH newspaper), the chief of police for Farmington NH wants to work to improve the quality of life for local residence by implementing a program that will have the town working closely with local landlords with the goal of improving the overall quality of life for the in-town area of Farmington, NH.  The plan would have landlords agreeing to spot inspections by town officials which would identify emergency and non-emergency upgrades to apartment buildings.  The thought being that would bring buildings up to better … (0 comments)

Doing what it takes for NH Home Buyers and Sellers
Recently I read a blog from another local REALTOR® about some of the things he has done to help prevent a deal from falling apart.  In the blog he explained about his part in helping to resolve and issues and make a deal come together for his buyer after finding that a well had bacteria in it.  This type of thing is something that we as REALTORS® often do that goes unheard.  It's one of those things that happen in life.  When you do a great job, often it's not discussed nearly as … (0 comments)

Calling all Carnivores in the Rochester NH Area!
I'd like to take a moment to tell you about the best dang hamburger joint in the north east, at least I think so...  On Route 125 just off  exit 13 on the Spaulding Turnpike in Rochester, NH is a place called Wild Willy's Burgers.  Typically I like to treat myself to the burgers they offer on Friday afternoons.  I consider it a treat and something worthy of looking forward to during the week.  You see, this is not a fast food establishment.  In fact, my only complaint is that it's a little … (0 comments)

History and other facts about Rochester NH and Rochester NH Real Estate

According to Wikipedia, Rochester NH was once inhabited by Abenaki Indians.  A suburb of Rochester NH was known as Squamanogonic. Today, the name has been shortened to just Gonic.  This name means "the water of the clay place hill."  This makes much sense and would explain the reason why the Gonic Brick yard was developed and stood as one of many main sources of employment for locals in the late 1800's and all of the 1900's during that time, at least 3 generations of … (1 comments)

nh: Is buying NH new construction the same as buying a pre-existing home? - 04/03/07 07:40 AM
Simply put, HECK NO, especially if the home is not already built.  Even if the home is built, there are still things to consider over and above buying a pre-existing home.  Some of these things are what type of warranty program is offered, how does one go about reporting a warranty issue and more importantly, how is a claim handled by the seller/builder.  Another important thing to consider is making an offer and how to maximize the NH home buyer's investment.  Making an offer on new construction real estate is not quite the same as pre-existing housing because the seller does … (0 comments)

nh: Selling in today's Real Estate marketplace in the Seacoast of NH. - 04/03/07 02:27 AM
It's certainly a funny time in Seacoast NH Real Estate.  If you are a NH home buyer, then you are almost experiencing information overload with all the choices you have for buying a home.  If you are a home seller, competition can be fierce.  As I meet with NH home sellers to talk about selling their homes and how they should be priced, I explain how critical it is to price the home properly.  I go on to explain that even when priced properly, pre-existing (used) homes in Seacoast NH can be difficult to sell unless the home has a unique … (0 comments)
