Lock Watch for the Week of 2/4/2019

Volatility-O-Meter:
Compared to last week, there should be relatively few fireworks driven by economic reports.  With the backdrop of a Fed perhaps on hold, this week's auctions (3, 10 and 30) could be interesting.

Lock Watch for the Week of 1/14/2019

Volatility-O-Meter:
A good mix of important reports throughout the week and though it does not seem promising at the moment, a resolution to the shutdown brings the potential for the stock market to rally and bonds to sell off.  Be careful.

Lock Watch for the Week of 12/10/2018

Volatility-O-Meter:
Key inflation reports mid-week will help set the direction.  Recent market (stock and bond) volatility has largely played into a narrative that the Fed may reduce number of forthcoming rate increases, but if inflation comes in hot, I expect a lot more turmoil.

Economicalendar (all times are Pacific):
Mon, 12/10:      JOLTS (7am).

Volatility-O-Meter:
A transition week, perhaps?  Will we get away from the stock market volatility of the last couple of weeks and settle in or will the week end's GDP report set the tone?

Lock Watch for the Week of 9/17/2018

Volatility-O-Meter:
I feel as though something tipped last week.  No matter what the reports showed, the bond market wanted to move higher and rates increased as a result.  It is unclear what will break this trend and certainly this week's news doesn't seem to have that capacity.  In addition to what's below, be mindful of a new round of tariffs on China...

Not a heavy week of big reports, though we're opening lower already. With the outcome of the Russia "summit" and China's trade reaction, I guess "we'll see what happens."
