2010: No More Texting While Driving in Georgia

Beginning today, the ban on texting while driving goes into effect. This ban also includes checking e-mail, sending text messages and using the Internet. Drivers caught behind the wheel may face a $150 fine. They will also get 1 point added to their driver's license. Being stopped at a traffic signal or stop sign does not give you a pass to text. Georgia State Patrol troopers said that they will give drivers a 30 day adjustment period to get used to the restrictions. Strict enforcement of the ban will begin by August 1st. Most people forget though that Senate by itself cannot pass and implement this measure. On Wednesday, the Senate passed a bill to give home buyers another 3 months to close on their homes and still receive tax credits up to $8,000. After a 2 year absence, Screen on the Green returns to Piedmont Park on May 27th. The widely popular outdoor movie series will celebrate its 11th year back in its original home, Midtown's Piedmont Park. A severe drought forced the series to move to Centennial Olympic Park for the last two years. Loan limits are set equal to 115% of local median house prices and they cannot exceed 150% of the standard limit. The standard limit is $625,500 for one-unit homes in the continental US.
