business coaching: Measuring Your Marketing - 11/15/08 12:06 AM
I just read an interesting post about YouTube.  It was written by a service provider who was kind enough to share some valuable info on YouTube's reach (or potential reach).  Like all good "salespeople", this blog poster gave something of value before expecting me to become a customer.
That blog post reminded me of one of the most critical functions in business (something I love to share as a business coach) when you're using more than one marketing campaign.  In other words, if you're using YouTube, newspaper, blogs, email blasts, etc., you need to perform this one critical function to know what's … (3 comments)

business coaching: New FREE Marketing Tool Launched. Check Them Out! - 11/12/08 03:43 PM
I just signed up for BizReach.com today.  The company just recently launched their website, which is a free service for people to get their name out to other businesses and consumers.  It took me only about 10 minutes to input my information and create my own "profile" complete with one of my company logos and other contact information.  Free is a pretty good deal, right?  Check out my BizReach.com link by going here:  Jason's BizReach.com Page
As a business coach, I'm always proud of new businesses.  Business owners are some of the hardest working people in America.  Starting a new business is … (7 comments)

business coaching: FUN! My new shortcut for WTF...Where's The Fun?!? - 11/07/08 05:48 AM
I view my life as a journey to be enjoyed and appreciated and I create an atmosphere of fun and happiness so all around me enjoy it as well.

Hey...if it's boring, stress-filled or cancerous, then WTF?  Where's The Fun?!?!  "Work" should be a means to an end.  Do you know what your "end" is?  Do you, as Covey says, work "with the end in mind"?  (BTW, I'm not talking about death as the end...I'm talking about building a life that you can enjoy...what does that look like to you?)
Consider that you have a choice in how you … (1 comments)

business coaching: RedBox...an example of innovation, and how it can HELP you! - 09/20/08 04:56 PM
Ahhh...the power of the RedBox.  What a killer concept, right?  Oh, if only I'd though of it first!  When I was in Japan a couple years ago everything was available through a vending machine.  Looks like we're catching up with our overseas friends.  Great stuff right?  Well...what if you're the local video store...you know, the old fashioned "brick and mortar" kind?  Aren't you going to be a little upset that you're losing to a $1 rental outfit that doesn't have a fraction of the overhead you do...and doesn't have high school kids with attitudes running the place!
I was at the … (8 comments)

business coaching: Balance. Part of our Culture. - 09/19/08 06:45 PM
Consider you're on an airplane flying to some remote island far away.  You're comfortably seated in a large leather seat in first class, stretched out with your shoes off, a good drink and a friendly passenger next to you.  You can't wait to get to the island and have a couple days of much needed relaxation.  But then, minutes after you pass the "point of no return" the pilot comes on the PA and announces in a somber and scared voice that there is a significant fuel leak.  "Ladies and gentlemen, it looks like we might have a problem reaching our final … (5 comments)

business coaching: Culture. What you believe really matters. Team Work - 09/19/08 06:19 PM
Team Work ROCKS!
Is team work part of your culture?  Can you even have team work if you're a solo practitioner or an independent agent?  I say YES.  Team work to me is a not just about your business team...it's about alliances, cooperatives, networking groups, mentors and others who enrich my life and enhance my business.  I'm fortunate to be able to call upon friends and peers to coach me when I need the help (not being afraid to ask is sort of important there).
I also admire the teams that we create which make our communities better.  For example, our Chamber of … (0 comments)

business coaching: Thank you to Joan for a great morning (and my host, Gregg Saunders) - 09/17/08 10:23 AM
I had the pleasure of listening to Joan Endicott this morning.  She was the guest speaker at Gregg Saunder's morning meeting (Gregg, by the way, is an outstanding financial planner with Rocky Mountain Financial in Boise, Idaho...).
Joan gave a fantastic presentation full of emotion (yeah...like I wanna cry at 7am), humor, motivation and inspiration.  Joan is a fellow business coach, success adviser and public speaker.  I thought her mix of stories, humor and practical advice were right on.  Her website has plenty of background info if you want to look into what Joan has to offer (see http://joanendicott.com/).  Joan is someone you'll … (4 comments)

business coaching: Culture. What you believe really matters. Education - 09/17/08 09:08 AM
The importance of EDUCATION is in taking action!  (Yeah, "I know...")
What moves you and your business?  In my business coaching firm we have well defined points of culture that guide the company and the coaches...and they're spot on for quality, accuracy and results!  I hope they inspire you to evaluate your own culture and perhaps, if necessary, create or renew your own!
Our seventh point of culture is EDUCATION.  I think we all know what education means...but what good does a whole bunch of knowledge do if we don't USE it?  In real estate, there are hundreds of wonderful hard copy and … (1 comments)

business coaching: Denis Waitley's Weekly Ezine - 08/27/08 02:53 AM
I always find some wonderful nugget of information and inspiration from some of the enewsletters I receive.  While many of these newsletters are just marketing in disguise (and sometimes not in disguise), I still find great benefit from reading them.
Here's what I read today with great pleasure (after all, I am a business coach...which will make perfect sense after you read this):

From Denis Waitley's Weekly Ezine:
1. This Week's Jumpstart
The young violinist just off the bus at the Port Authority asked a New York policeman for directions."Tell me, sir, how do I get to Carnegie Hall?""Practice."Practice makes … (1 comments)

business coaching: What Gets You Fired Up? Where is YOUR Coach? - 08/18/08 05:20 PM

If you don't already know about the wonder that is Michael Phelps, then you either don't get the news in any of its dozen various forms or you've been unconscious for the last week.  I won't list Phelps' amazing accomplishments.  It's sufficient to note that he's absolutely amazing...the best of the best, with a record number of gold medals to prove it.
So what can we learn about business from Phelps.  How about the fact that he has a coach.  Why would the best swimmer in the world need a coach?  Could Phelps have achieved the same level of Olympic greatness without his coach?  I'll be … (8 comments)

business coaching: LinkedIn, Coaching, Boise Connections and Fun - 08/18/08 03:47 PM
I attended a wonderful social/networking function this evening.  It was a lot of fun meeting wonderful people and connecting with some new Boise friends.  David Clemons did a great job organizing the excellent social event.  It was a lot of fun to watch David in action (what a great example of an effective networker...and it's genuine, which I admire greatly).  It was also cool to hear from George Seybold on the benefits and basic how-to's of blogging.  I shared my success with ActiveRain...which I openly endorse every chance I get.  I also like introducing myself as a business coach, since I know … (1 comments)

business coaching: Small Business Problems? NOT YOU! - 08/15/08 04:18 AM
I just read an article on CNN.com about small businesses feeling the pain of this miserable economy.  What a downer...if you let it!  But as I read the article I was pleased to see some good suggestions how to survive this so-called recession.
Here's the article: http://money.cnn.com/2008/08/15/smallbusiness/smallbiz_optimism_down.fsb/index.htm?postversion=2008081510
We all know doom and gloom sells more than optimism.  In my opinion, we can't be oblivious to market conditions, but we can choose to be more optimistic in how we present our views to others.  For example, the author of this article (Emily Maltby) could have started her article with something like this:

business coaching: Why Business? (subtitle: Eagle Chamber of Commerce) - 08/12/08 02:57 PM
I "sponsored" the Eagle (Idaho) Chamber of Commerce luncheon today on about 12 hours notice.  I love presenting to a crowd, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to support the chamber while sharing some valuable information with other business owners.  My presentation was only about 10 minutes, but it was to a wonderful group of 100+ local business owners.
What do you do in 10 minutes to give real value and promote a business you believe in very strongly?  I hate to sound like a salesman, so I didn't want to pitch products or services.  I also didn't … (3 comments)

business coaching: Culture. What you believe really matters. Success - 08/12/08 02:41 PM
Can you tell someone (like the whole AR world) your business's culture?  Is it set on purpose (under your control) or is it an accident?  My business coaching firm has well defined points of culture that guide the company and the coaches...and they're spot on for quality, accuracy and results!  I hope they inspire you to evaluate your own culture and perhaps, if necessary, create or renew your own!
Our sixth point of culture is SUCCESS.  Success speaks for itself...or does it?  How do you define success?  Is it money?  Accomplishment?  Power?  Fame?  Or is it something less material like family?  Flexibility of schedule?  Having … (2 comments)

business coaching: Culture. What you believe really matters. Communication - 08/09/08 08:15 PM
CULTURE really does matter.  What is your business's culture?  If the owner hasn't set it, have the employees?  Is the culture best for business, or is it an accident?  My business coaching firm has well defined points of culture that guide the company and the coaches...and they're spot on for quality, accuracy and results!
Our fifth point of culture is COMMUNICATION.  I obtained my undergrad degree in communication.  I love public speaking and I see communication as necessary for success in business and in life.  In fact, I also believe the lack of effective communication as the downfall to business success and relationships alike.  Here's … (0 comments)

business coaching: Business Advice: Real-tor Improvement - 08/06/08 12:40 PM
I'd really love some input here as I coach real estate professionals.  I understand the fundamentals of a business such as real estate sales and mortgage lending.  But I'm curious on a "street" level what all you AR experts think.  I'm looking for real practical advice, not theory.  I know there are not right or wrong answers to these questions...perhaps the collective body of knowledge on AR can help create a great list I can share with other fledgling Realtors.
Two questions:
1.  What are the top three things a real estate professional should BE in order to be successful?  In … (6 comments)

business coaching: Culture. What you believe really matters. Excellence - 08/06/08 11:11 AM
CULTURE really does matter.  What is your business's culture?  If the owner hasn't set it, have the employees?  Is the culture best for business, or is it an accident?  My business coaching firm has well defined points of culture that guide the company and the coaches...and they're spot on for quality, accuracy and results!
Our fourth point of culture is EXCELLENCE.  Here's what excellence means to me as a business coach (and attorney) as well my ActionCOACH firm:
"Good enough isn't. I always deliver products and services of exceptional quality that add value to all involved for the long term. I look for ways … (4 comments)

business coaching: Who's NICE in Your Corner? - 08/05/08 05:36 AM
I picked up a copy of How Tiger Does It by Brad Kearns at my local library.  I thought (correctly) that there would be some information about coaching...since "even Tiger Woods" uses a coach...and he's the best there is.
Here's a short snippet from the book...this should get you thinking.  Who do you have to hold you accountable?  Who's in your corner being "not NICE"?  (NICE, in my biz, stands for Nothing Inside me Cares Enough).  Who's helping you be your best...even better than you think you can be?
Page 112...from the author's point of view:
It's still not easy to … (3 comments)

business coaching: Measure and Test! Stop Wasting Ad Money! - 08/04/08 04:28 AM
It is important...no...it's actually critical with any marketing, advertising, or promotional campaign to "Measure and Test".  This is the only way you'll be able to tell if a campaign works.  And when you're talking about ads in the Yellow Pages (or worse, all seven hundred different Yellow Pages), you're talking about a significant cost that you do NOT want to throw away.
Measuring consists of tracking and tallying the response to your ad or promotion.  You must first have a baseline, then develop a way to track responses.  The baseline is important simply because you won't know if you're doing better … (6 comments)

business coaching: Culture. What you believe really matters. Integrity - 08/04/08 04:24 AM
CULTURE really does matter.  What is your business's culture?  If the owner hasn't set it, have the employees?  Is the culture best for business, or is it an accident?  At ActionCOACH, Brad Sugars has done a great job defining fourteen points of culture that guide the company and the coaches...and they're spot on for quality, accuracy and results!
At ActionCOACH, our third point of culture is INTEGRITY.  Here's what integrity means to ActionCOACH and to me:
"I always speak the truth. What I promise is what I deliver. I only ever make agreements with myself and others that I am willing and intend to … (4 comments)
