An article from the OC Register says the demand for Orange County homes has recently jumped 10%. The article and it's numbers are based on an inventory report from Steve Thomas of Altera Real Estate. Barclays estimated that the market jumped from 22% of all sales in June up to 30% of all sales in July. But where is the flooding of all the REO’s? In view of Barclays estimate I don’t think the flood of REO’s is coming. The Treasury Department today announced two new programs to help distressed homeowners avoid foreclosure. One program will provide incentives for lenders to modify mortgage terms, and the other will streamline the short sale process, in which a lender agrees to a sale for less than the value of the homeowners' mortgage. "Today we are announcing a new program component to help homeowners obtain modifications in areas suffering from home price declines," said Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner in a statement.
