harford county: MARC Commuter Appreciation Day - 04/18/11 07:57 AM
MARC Commuter Appreciation Day
The county officials in Harford County, Maryland have worked hard to expand the availability and the safety of the rail commuter service to Harford County.
This has been growing in importance as the county expands due to a heavy influx of employers and employees related to the BRAC initiative.
There is also a heavy demand for rail commuting from Harford County to Baltimore City, BWI Airport, and the DC region.
The Maryland governor, Martin O'Malley, has also pushed for more funding for rail expansion and improvement throughout the state.
The increased use of rail will help to … (8 comments)

Harford County Maryland: Warehouse Expansion and Possible 1,000 New Jobs
A 400,000 square foot addition to an existing warehouse in the Edgewood area of Harford County could result in nearly 1,000 new jobs.
It is likely that the retailer Kohls will take over the warehouse and operate three shifts of workers.
Kohls operates two stores within Harford County and several others within a fifty mile radius of the proposed warehouse location.

harford county: Maryland: Aberdeen and Havre de Grace Growth Considered - 03/23/11 08:11 AM
Maryland: Aberdeen and Havre de Grace Growth Considered
Harford County Maryland has been experiencing rapid economic growth.
This growth can largely be attributed to the military's Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) initiative.
A good hundred defense contractors have opened offices near or on the Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG).
The majority of the operations from Fort Monmouth in New Jersey have been transferred to APG.
Thousands of jobs have either been created or transferred to the area.
All of this and a predicted continuation of this expansion has created the need for additional housing and more and better infrastructure.
In Harford County, the regions … (6 comments)

Harford County, Maryland: Job Fair September 30, 2010
The State of Maryland has been creating jobs at a pace which surpasses that of most of the nation, however, it still needs to lower its unemployment numbers to lower than 7 percent where they are now.
Harford County, Maryland has been one of the hot beds for employment in the state, mainly because of the influx of jobs related to the military's base relocation and closure initiative (BRAC).
42 new defense contractors have already moved in, with 24 of them moving in the last six months.

Harford County, Maryland: BRAC Impact
You have heard that BRAC would be big for Harford County, Maryland and it is proving to be just that.
Here is some of what is happening:
Just inside of Aberdeen Proving Ground, 526,000 square feet in new space for an office and technology park called The Gate is being constructed.
40 percent of all new office building construction now underway in the U.S. is located in the Baltimore-Washington area, mainly because of the Base Realignment and Closure Initiative.

At APG, defense contractors that have already signed leases (and some have already moved in) … (7 comments)

Harford County, Maryland: Public Transportation
It was not long ago that Harford County Maryland was very much a rural county.
Over the years, development took place, but mostly of a residential nature, whereby it had become a suburb of Baltimore City.
But now, primarily due to the military base realignment and closure initiative (BRAC), the county is seeing a heavy influx of businesses and their associated jobs, all of which is causing an increase in population and congestion.
The companies are locating along the Route 40 corridor or in reasonably close proximity to Aberdeen Proving Ground, which is the driving economic force.

Harford County, Maryland: Improvements Continue at I-95 / Rte 24
The saying was created for highway construction sites, but it could apply at anytime.
"Stay Alert So No One Gets Hurt"
While keeping this excellent advice in mind, recognize that improvement to the Junctions at Rte 24 and I-95 and Rte 24 and Emmorton / Tollgate Roads is progressing as scheduled.
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) began Phase 2 of construction of the I-95/ MD 24 Improvement Project last September. As part of Phase 2, a temporary detour road and intersection at MD 24 and MD 924 was completed. This road was put … (6 comments)
