portland home stagers: Staging Advice: Make Sure your Open House is a Success - 01/20/15 03:47 PM

Do you want your Open House visitors to relax and linger?
First, remember to appeal to all of the senses:
The Front Door should be clean and have a fresh coat of paint; replace the door hardware if needed The exterior light fixtures should be clean and shining A new doormat and a few pots of colorful flowers are very welcoming to potential buyers The house itself should smell clean ... without heavy or perfumey scents. Open the windows to bring in fresh air before the Open House; and don't allow smoking in or around the house when it's on … (45 comments)

portland home stagers: Keep your Home Looking Good for Showings: Tips from a Portland Stager - 01/28/13 03:19 PM

When our Portland home staging company works with sellers and Realtors, we give them Tips to keep the house looking great for the Open House & showings. Before the house goes on the market, sellers are usually advised to clean their home like there's no tomorrow, remove excess furniture to create a great traffic flow, pack away all the personal photos, collectibles & "stuff" that everyone accumulates, clean up the yard, etc.

But how to KEEP the house looking ready for a showing with short notice? Whether the sellers did the staging themselves or had a staging consultation with … (32 comments)

portland home stagers: Even Beautifully-Decorated Homes can Benefit from Staging - 05/05/12 10:35 AM
As professional home stagers, we often explain that the difference between decorating and staging is that decorating is done for the homeowner's taste and style, and staging is done to attract the target buyer.  When it's time to put your home on the market, making a few changes in how your home is perceived can have a positive effect on maximizing your equity (after all, that's the bottom line when you're selling).
Our Portland OR home staging company was selected for a recent staging project that was multi-layered.  This spectacular property is located in an exclusive Portland suburb, and the sellers … (38 comments)

portland home stagers: The Listing Agent Said Home Staging Might Help ... - 03/04/12 05:17 AM
Sometimes when a home has been on the market a little while, the listing agent and homeowner assess how they could increase showings and interest in the property.  This is the case of a home that we staged recently in Portland OR:  it was on the market for a few weeks, but no offers were forthcoming and the house lacked color and energy.  Although they didn't plan to make big changes, the listing agent knew that staging and better photos could help increase interest from potential buyers.
Here are some Before & After photos showing what we did to add energy … (27 comments)

portland home stagers: Staged on Monday ~ SOLD on Friday! Home Staging Success in Portland OR - 02/12/12 09:23 AM
As a home staging company based in Portland Oregon, we love helping our clients sell their homes faster!  This week we staged a home in Happy Valley Oregon that had been on the market for two months;  the listing agent told us that buyers weren't excited about the property, even though they'd had a good number of showings.  She said that buyers often commented that they didn't like the backyard.   As professional home stagers, we knew that by making the house itself look amazing, buyers wouldn't be as worried about the un-landscaped backyard.

portland home stagers: Most Buyers Can't "See" your Home's Features when it's Vacant (On the market for 7 months, then Staged & Sold in 1 Week) - 01/30/12 06:56 AM
This Portland Home was on the Market for 7 Months ~ Then Staged & Sold in 1 Week!

When your home or listing is on the market, remember that a vacant home (no matter how nice it is) doesn't include an important ingredient ("emotion") from the buyer's point of view.  Here's a good example ... a beautiful new home in Portland was on the market from May through December 2011 without a sale.  It was Vacant, and buyers just didn't "connect" with this lovely upscale home, even though it had multiple price reductions.
The sellers then contacted our Portland home … (32 comments)

Portland-area Sellers ~ Don't Wait to Stage your Home!  The best offers usually come in the first couple of weeks.  Waiting to "see how it goes" before properly preparing your home for selling will lengthen market time and cost you lost opportunities when buyers are disappointed that your property isn't "move-in ready."  We can help!

portland home stagers: Which Home Would You Want to Live In? - 11/21/11 07:54 AM
Our Portland Oregon home staging company often gets calls from Realtors or homeowners whose property has been on the market for months without a sale.  We ask about the feedback the home has received, and usually hear that the home appears dated or it didn't "feel" right to the potential buyers (another way of saying they just didn't like it).  After we've been hired, we provide our suggestions for cost-effective and easy cosmetic fixes to be completed, then we stage the house, including taking the photos for the online listing.
We recently staged this Portland home and think that the "Before" … (37 comments)

portland home stagers: 6 Months on the Market (Ho-Hum) Then Staged -- A Portland House Becomes a Home - 09/15/11 05:12 PM
You know how most vacant homes look and feel .... kind of boring and ho-hum?  After all, when there's nothing for buyers to look at except 4 walls, the floor, ceiling, etc. even little paint chips and small flaws start to seem worse than they really are.  Much of the home buying decision is made with emotions.  Buyers may say that their criteria is "X,Y &Z" but in fact when they find a house that they  connect with, their hearts start to beat a little faster, and they can't wait to see more of it.  There's an energy that homes give … (58 comments)

portland home stagers: Home Staging Tip: Dated Oak Cabinets? Update them with Paint! - 03/24/11 05:57 PM
As a professional home stager based in Portland, Oregon I often see dated oak cabinets in kitchens and bathrooms. This was the height of style back in the '70's & '80's but today's buyers want a more modern, fresh look.  Here's an easy fix that you can do yourself (or hire someone to do it for you).
My homeowner clients in Beaverton OR were planning to put their home on the market and asked me to provide a home staging consultation.  Because the target buyer for this home was younger, one of my recommendations was that they update their kitchen cabinets … (128 comments)

portland home stagers: A Few Simple Changes can Help Sell Your Home Faster! - 02/19/11 07:22 PM
As professional home stagers in the Portland Oregon area, we're often asked to help our clients prepare their home or listing for sale.  As part of our Portland home staging service, we include tips for preparing your home for the market - even before staging begins.
We recently consulted with a family whose elderly mother had moved into a senior community.  The house was immaculate but still had all brass light fixtures along with brass hardware and doorknobs.  We suggested replacing those brass items with brushed nickel, and the family also removed some of the dated furniture pieces that had served … (47 comments)

portland home stagers: Why Stage the Master Bedroom? - 02/04/11 05:09 AM
We've heard that home staging is an effective marketing tool especially when it's part of the total package including a great listing agent, realistic pricing, a home in good condition, and sellers who understand that property presentation is critically important.  The rooms we recommend staging include the main living areas (living room, family room, kitchen, dining, etc.)  As professional stagers, we also advise staging the Master Bedroom.  Why?
Buyers make emotional connections with homes they're viewing ... and an empty room with 4 blank walls only allows them to see flaws and imperfections in the paint, flooring, windows, etc.  Buyers (and … (38 comments)

portland home stagers: The Seller said, "My Agent Staged the House, but I really need Help from a Professional Stager" - 11/22/10 07:36 PM
Fellow home stagers, has this ever happened to you?
Your client (the homeowner), who has moved out, contacts you and says, "My listing agent offered 'free' staging as part of their services .... but the staging isn't at all what I expected.  Can you come look at the house to see if you can help?  I feel we need a professional stager."
First, I looked at the online photos ... this Vacant home had been on the market for several months, and wasn't getting the showings that it should have.  I was shocked when I saw how dated the furnishings were … (89 comments)

portland home stagers: Staging a Rummer Home in Beaverton Oregon (what's a Rummer, you ask?) - 10/11/10 07:04 PM
Today my Portland home staging company completed staging of a "Rummer" home in the suburb of Beaverton, Oregon.  If you haven't heard of a "Rummer" these homes were built in the 1960's and '70's with a post-and-beam design.  Robert Rummer was the builder and creator, and he styled them after another type of home that he admired, the Eichler home.  Eichlers were a popular mid-century ranch home in California, with most rooms built off a central atrium.

Here are some Before and After photos of this unique Rummer style of home.

The unique architectural details of the Rummer homes … (34 comments)
