big rapids: I've Been Re-Blogged - 07/30/12 01:54 AM
What a great feeling...I've Been Re-Blogged. To know not only was your post read and commented on, but someone liked it enough to Re-Blog it. It gets even better when it is someone you consider of the highest caliber Active Rain has to offer. This morning I wrote a post (Home Inspection Timing) on my thoughts of having a pre-listing inspection done. Not only would the sale go smoother but may be a deal sweetener if the Buyer knew the home had already been inspected. I was somewhat surprised to see it was Featured but when I noticed it was re-blogged by … (14 comments)

big rapids: Home Inspection Timing - 07/29/12 11:34 PM
Several of my favorite posts on Active Rain are from home inspectors. Buyers love them, Sellers hate them and agents don't always recommend them in fear of losing a deal. My thoughts are why would you not want to lose the deal if something were wrong rather than wait to get sued down the road? That got me thinking about the timing of the home inspection. Almost every house sold is going to have an inspection so why not get one before it sells? Matter of fact why not get one for your home whether it is for sale or not? … (17 comments)

big rapids: Experience Real Estate...The Way It Should Be!!! - 07/21/12 09:37 AM
Experience Real Estate...The Way It Should Be!!! has been one my most frequently used tag lines since becoming a Realtor several years ago. When I first became an agent my office was by the up desk at a different Brokerage and I was forced to hear how real estate shouldn't be quite often, so my mission was to open and run a client friendly office with the clients needs always a priority.
With Big Rapids, MI being our location, Ferris State University Students are always looking for help finding housing. Here is what one might expect when the hunt is on … (2 comments)

big rapids: Disc Golf in Big Rapids, MI - 07/15/12 12:15 AM
When I wandered through the North End Riverside Park this weekend it left me wondering how long we have had Disc Golf in Big Rapids, MI? Turns out over 6 years. Not being able to throw a Frisbee (or in non trademarked terms, disc) very well somehow this sport slipped under my radar. There is an amazing course here over a mile in length. Leonard Johnson designed the course winding through the heavily wooded terrain. They even have a Tournament every Wednesday through the summer and it's just $5 to enter, there will also be prizes. For more information call Gary Van … (2 comments)

big rapids: Sunrise Haven Estates, Big Rapids, MI - 06/24/12 07:20 AM
One of my favorite subdivisons is Sunrise Haven Estates in Big Rapids, MI. Steve Fenstermacher is the developer and even before the land was cleared he had a clear vision of what it would look like and the lifestyle he could offer. The view from most every lot is amazing. You can see for miles to the South and East and to the West and North is beautifully wooded acreage. Paved walkways lit up at night make walking around Lake Esther an even better experience or wandering over to the lighted tennis courts and basketball courts for a late game is … (2 comments)

big rapids: To Air Is Human, Right? - 06/20/12 01:15 AM
Very rarely in Michigan do we get to say it is just to hot. Yesterday we had our yearly golf outing and the 90+ temps about killed me only to come home to an even hotter house. With all the technology most of us have running at any given time the indoor temps are warmer than ever. I have been fighting the temptation to just go buy an air conditioner as our converted 1880"s school house doesn't have central air. When we remodeled it was a typical Michigan fall where air conditioning was not a huge concern. Question now is...do we … (4 comments)

big rapids: Shameless Self Promoters? - 05/09/12 11:46 AM
At our Annual Meeting for the Chamber of Commerce I beklong to we listened to the speaker who did an outstanding job covering Social Media and how his company could help us strenthen our position. When he referred to us Realtors as "Shameless Self Promoters" I was a little shocked but after a little thought might agree somewhat. Most everything we do has our contact info attached. We leave cards, buy bill boards, radio and tv ads. I guess it was more the way it sounded that sent chills up my spine. I do promote myself any chance I get and … (6 comments)

big rapids: Road to 300K in the Rain - 11/26/11 01:33 PM
With this post I will surpass 300K points here in the Rain. For this milestone, I am giving myself a gold star. I had planned on writing an awesome thoughtful post that would leave everyone in awe and then reality hit. Short and Sweet gets the job done.
When I first started in Active Rain I was in a race with myself to hit that 100,000 milestone. I hit my 10 posts a week, spent way too much time reading others thoughts and with an occasional Featured Acrticle was conent on climbing the ladder to be the Featured Agent for my … (55 comments)

big rapids: QR Code Challenge - 06/29/11 02:43 PM
Trying to keep up with the new technology is a full time job. My company was in the process of having new t-shirts screen printed when I cam across the Kodak / ActiveRain June Mobile Marketing Challenge and decided it was time to venture into this area. Our Screen Printer is Kelgraphic's in Cadillac, MI and it was no challenge for their art folks to whip up a simple yet effective t-shirt. The shirts wont be done before the challenge ends but here is a sample showing the direction we went.

Traveling in unchartered waters is always a fun experience … (9 comments)

big rapids: 8th Annual WCAR Golf Outing - 06/12/11 01:55 PM
Tuesday June 14th marks the date for the West Central Association of Realtors 8th Annual Golf Outing which promises to be a fun filled day of networking and laughter. This is only my second year attending these and while the first year I was horrified of looking like a fool, this year I realize I have company and no one cares. I am golfing with my competition and long time friend Dennis Love, Billy Myers and Maynard Travis from Lakeland Title. If nothing else it gives me a few hours away from the office and phone which is worth the price … (6 comments)

big rapids: Housing Options for the Ferris State University Students - 06/12/11 08:44 AM
Almost that time of year when we get our Ferris students back. Every year our quiet little townbecomes a bustling hot spot with 14,000 or so new residents. First few weeks are mayhem but we eventually get our rhythm right and work well together. The students have several options available in regards to housing. Ferris does have rules about who can live off campus so make sure you start there. Here is a link to their website where you can find the rules: Ferris Housing. If you can live off campus you have a couple options. Rent or buy. No answer … (2 comments)
