mortgage: Volatile Week in the Market - 08/29/15 09:12 AM
Over the past week, mortgage rates were pushed and pulled by unusually large movements in global stock markets. The economic data had little impact. After a volatile week, mortgage rates ended just a little higher.
Concerns about slowing global economic growth, particularly in China, caused the U.S. stock market to decline sharply early in the week. However, with stocks at much lower prices, buyers stepped in later in the week, erasing the week's earlier losses. While the magnitude of the moves were relatively smaller, a similar pattern was seen in mortgage rates. They dropped early in the week and then gave back … (1 comments)

mortgage: Inflation Outlook Helps Rates - 08/22/15 03:25 AM
The Fed Minutes released on Wednesday had a positive impact on mortgage rates. In addition, concerns about the pace of global economic growth reduced inflation expectations, which also was favorable for mortgage rates. As a result, mortgage rates ended lower.  … (0 comments)

mortgage: Average age to buy first home in US now 33 - 08/18/15 05:00 AM
Getting married, owning a home, and starting a family is the American dream right? Well, for some, owning a home will continue to be just a dream as the US homeownership rate is the lowest it’s been since 1967. According to data from the Department of Commerce’s Census Bureau, the US homeownership rate has been steadily dropping since 2009 and hit 63.4% in the second quarter of 2015. So what’s causing this decline in homeownership? There’s one thing not to blame – millennials.
Although they may be somewhat contributing to the issue, as 50% are renters in the current strong rental market according to … (4 comments)

mortgage: Is Fed Rate Hike Near? - 08/10/15 09:10 AM
During the past week, comments from a Fed official increased investor expectations for a Fed rate hike this year, causing mortgage rates to move a little higher. The week's economic data was mostly right on target and had little net effect.
On Tuesday, Fed member Dennis Lockhart gave investors the impression that the first federal funds rate hike is likely to take place soon. In essence, he said that he believes that a rate hike will be appropriate in September unless the economy significantly underperforms expectations. While other Fed officials may feel differently, investors took this as a warning to be … (0 comments)

mortgage: Gradually rising rates shouldn’t dampen market - 07/27/15 05:42 AM
Housing activity has strengthened in recent months, as gains in both new and existing home sales in May pushed total sales up to their highest level in eight years. Analysts say a combination of job creation growth and an overdue upturn in mortgage lending, along with high levels of consumer confidence should ensure that this strength continues.
But for how long, and what could change it? What’s it mean for the rest of 2015?
“From 5.4 million in 2014, we expect total home sales to average at least 5.7 million this year, before rising to around 6 million by 2017. That would be the strongest performance of home … (0 comments)

mortgage: Say Goodbye to Low Mortgage Rates - 07/17/15 11:05 AM
WE HAVE HEARD IT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOT THAT THE DAYS OF SUB 4% RATES MAY SOON BE GONE. BUT CONSUMERS WILL LIKELY SEE MORTGAGE RATES HIKE IN THE NEAR FUTURE FOLLOWING A DECISION BY THE FEDERAL RESERVE TO RAISE FEDERAL FUND RATES LATER THIS YEAR – THE FIRST BUMP IN RATES IN ALMOST 10 YEARS. BUT WILL RECENT ECONOMIC EVENTS IN GREECE, CHINA, AND PUERTO RICO POSTPONE THESE INCREASES?
AS A RESULT, MANY BUYERS ACROSS THE STATE AND NATION ARE BEGINNING TO SCRAMBLE TO GET INTO NEW HOMES BEFORE THESE HIGHER RATES HIT. ARE YOU READY TO BUY?
