Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland is one of the popular travel destinations for visitors in the DC Metro Area.

Subhash Sharma  "These exquisite looking chrysanthemum flowers have a Chinese origin where the flower was first cultivated by the Chinese more than 2500 years ago. Its name is also a Chinese word, derived from "Chu hua" meaning "October flower. Used initially as a herb, the chrysanthemum was first exhibited in England in 1795. As with many flowers, the Greek language comes into play with the naming of the Chrysanthemum. The name is believed to derive from … (23 comments)

Our growing season is over so I am happy to have photographs of beautiful flowers to share with you. Have a great Wednesday evening. Dolores and I enjoyed the happy hour at the Bonefish Grill in Kentlands. The Bang Bang Shrimp was excellent with the house chardonnay, La Terre.

Autumn Colors in Kentlands: Chrysanthemums

When I take my walks through Kentlands, our home community in Gaithersburg, Maryland, it is easy to see that chrysanthemums are among the most popular flowers for autumn displays. I like the variety of colors that are readly available at most of the garden centers and grocery stores at this time of the year.
This is the photograph that I selected for my Facebook cover photograph this week.

Pinterest: Chrysanthemums Board

As you expand your social media presence on Pinterest, you can be very creative as to the types of boards you post. If you are in residential real estate sales, you may wish to have boards on topics that interest home buyers.  Think in terms of boards on window treatments, outdoor space ideas, kitchen or bath remodeling or any number of other topics.
However, you do not need to be very creative to establish boards that will have hundreds if not thousands of followers. This is the link to my Chrysanthemums board on Pinterest. Many home owners enjoy flowers … (24 comments)

chrysanthemums: Book Recommendation: A Time To Kill by John Grisham - 01/27/14 04:29 AM
Book Recommendation:  A Time To Kill by John Grisham

Over the weekend, I finished reading A Time To Kill (1989) by John Grisham. After reading 20 or so of his books, I finally read the first one. It is outstanding, as may be expected.  A Time to Kill is the book that launched Grisham’s writing career.
The setting of this novel is the small town of Clanton, Mississippi and the primary character is criminal lawyer Jake Brigance.  If you are new to books by John Grisham, I suggest that you read A Time To Kill before reading his current best … (28 comments)

Book Recommendation:  Still Life by Louise Penny

When you discover a favorite author, it is fun to read all of the books by this writer. I just finished reading Still Life (2005) by Louise Penny. This was her first novel and this book served as the introduction of the now famous character Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. If you enjoy murder mysteries, this is a series you will enjoy.
So far, there are nine novels in the Chief Inspector Gamache series. The most recent book, How The Light Gets In, is outstanding!  Click on this link for a list of books … (18 comments)

Thinking of flowers on a rainy day in Maryland

We’ve had a rainy day in Maryland.  The positive thought is that it is not snowing.  I’ve edited some flowers photographs to post in some Facebook groups. It is interesting to receive immediate responses from around the world.
This photograph was taken at the Chrysanthemum Show at Brookside Gardens in Montgomery County, Maryland. Enjoy the week with your camera in hand. You will want to capture the special moments to share in your blogs.

chrysanthemums: I need a catchy title for this blog - 01/02/14 02:04 AM
I need a catchy title for this blog

We are expecting snow in Maryland and all should be well prepared for bad weather beginning at the time of the DC Metro Area rush hour. Fortunately, I am at home in my nice warm office and do not plan to be out and about this evening.
So, let’s turn out thoughts to flowers.  This bloom was in the Chrysanthemum Show at Brookside Gardens in Montgomery County, Maryland.

So, do you have a catchy title that will attract attention to this blog?

Friday Flowers:  Chrysanthemums, Brookside Gardens

Dolores and I have both been sick this week. With colds and sore throats, we had to cancel plans for several activities. I am not in the mood to write a serious blog today so I will just share some more photographs from the Chrysanthemum Show at Brookside Gardens. Brookside Gardens is located in the Montgomery County, Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC.
Be well and enjoy the holiday season!

chrysanthemums: What would you post as your final blog on ActiveRain? - 12/02/13 09:41 PM
What would you post as your final blog on ActiveRain?

As I phase into retirement this month, I face the challenges of transition.
If you were preparing your final blog for ActiveRain, what would you post?  Would you have a special message or would you just fade away?
While you are pondering these questions, I will share another flower picture with you.  Have a great week and an outstanding December.

chrysanthemums: Happy Thanksgiving - 11/27/13 08:53 AM
Happy Thanksgiving

I hope you will be enjoying the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends.  Dolores and I had our Wednesday night dinner at Bonefish Grill and have a full schedule planned for Thanksgiving Day.
We’ve had two cold and rainy days and hoping for better weather for the next day or so. My thoughts are not on real estate this evening as I write this blog. So, I will just share another flower picture and begin reading a new novel.
As we phase into retirement, I will be writing less about real estate as we focus on activities … (24 comments)

chrysanthemums: Thinking of flowers on this cold rainy day - 11/26/13 09:10 AM
Thinking of flowers on this cold rainy day

My philosophy is the life is better when there are flowers to photograph. The flowers in our garden are gone for the season and a cold and rainy day is not good for positive thinking.  Fortunately, I took enough photographs to last us through the winter.
Some of my favorites are pictures of chrysanthemums at Brookside Gardens. If you also had a rainy day, this is for you.

chrysanthemums: A chrysanthemum for you! - 10/26/13 09:28 AM
A chrysanthemum for you!

This is the time of the year for chrysanthemum shows. Last week, Dolores and I attended the Annual Mum Show, Sponsored by the Potomac Chrysanthemum Society, at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland. Today, we took a day trip to the National Chrysanthemum Society Show at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.
If you have never attended a chrysanthemum show, you may not know about the many varieties of chrysanthemums that we may not see in home gardens or at the local garden center.
Enjoy the colors of the season with your camera in hand.

chrysanthemums: Chrysanthemums at Longwood Gardens 1/18/12 - 01/18/12 02:40 AM
Chrysanthemums at Longwood Gardens
We have a windy winter morning in Maryland and the gardens have faded for the season.  In a while, I am scheduled for my annual physical examination which is not one of my favorite activities.  We do maintain a complete medical history that is available to take to appointments and I recommend that you do the same thing.  Physicians love to see the medical history records.
There are some wintertime flower shows that will provide beautiful colors for the season.  The Orchid Extravaganza begins this weekend at Longwood Gardens and will run from January 20th through March … (29 comments)
