dahlias: Maryland Gazpacho Soup Recipe - 05/29/12 11:18 PM
Maryland Gazpacho Soup Recipe    

6 cups chopped tomatoes
1 ½ cups chopped cucumber
¾ cup chopped yellow pepper
¾ cup minced onion
3 or 4 jalapeno peppers-minced
1/3 cup olive oil
5 Tbsp. vinegar
½ tsp. minced garlic
¾ cup water
1 can  (8oz.) tomato sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Prepare all ingredients in a large bowl. Refrigerate overnight. Serve with shredded cheddar cheese and croutons.  
There is no cooking.  Gazpacho soup is served cold.
This soup is delicious.  The recipe is from the Heirloom Tomato Festival in Westminster, Maryland.  Tested and recommended by Dolores Kelley.

Dahlias are blooming in Kentlands
We have some beautiful dahlias in our Kentlands home garden, in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  The colors are wonderful and it is easy to understand why dahlias are among the favorite flowers for Maryland gardens.  If you are shopping for dahlias, pay a little more for the larger plants and you will have more blooms to enjoy and photograph.

Today, there are 2,317 homes for sale in Montgomery County, Maryland.  This count includes the active listings on the multiple listing service (MRIS) but does not include any homes that are not listed for sale.  50 (2.15%) are lender owned foreclosures (REO) and 436 (18.8%) are offerings of short sale pre-foreclosures.
The current total of lender owned foreclosures is not having a major impact on the overall market for Montgomery County.  Home buyers and home sellers should ask for data in specific neighborhoods to help with purchase and sale decisions.

Longwood Gardens, in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania is one of our favorite places to visit.  Even when visitors arrive on cold winter days there are thousands of beautiful flowers to enjoy  and photograph in the very large Conservatory.
Currently, the major exhibits relate to the annual Orchid Extravaganza.  So, if you are an orchid lover, now is the time for a visit.  Orchid Extravaganza runs until March 25, 2012.

Skating on the Kentlands and Lakelands Lakes is Prohibited!
The frozen lakes look inviting, but please do not attempt to play or skate on any of the lakes in Kentlands and Lakelands.  The ice could give way and you would fall into freezing water!  If this were to happen, it could prove fatal before rescuers could reach the scene.  Talk to your children about the extreme danger of playing on the ice or the rocks surrounding the lakes.
Even though the ice looks stable, our lakes double as a storm drainage network. This means that the level of water under the ice may be lowering.  … (6 comments)

The Spring Display can now be seen in the Conservatory at Brookside Gardens in the Wheaton Regional Park in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Brookside Gardens is a local treasure that welcomes over 400,000 visitors each year.  Take time to visit the conservatory with your camera in hand.  The Spring Display will be featured until April 15, 2012.

On cold winter days, it is good to keep beautiful flowers in mind as we are challenged to have positive attitudes regardless of the weather conditions.  I respond well to light, color and form and find that flowers can be the best subjects for a favorable mental perspective.

Visitors to Maryland should allow time to visit Brookside Gardens.  Over 400,000 people enjoy the gardens each year.  Admission is free.

Dahlias are blooming in Maryland.  They are found in a wide variety of colors and shapes.  When you photograph dahlias, you learn that the coloration of each bloom is different.  Every flower is unique.  Every photograph is a special experience.
Take time to take a closer look at the fall flowers and fully enjoy the beauty that is provided by nature.  Have your camera in hand to capture those special moments and it will be easy to put aside the business problems of that have occupied your mind.

We've enjoyed a break in the winter weather in Maryland. A couple of mild days will really get you thinking about spring and summer flowers. I hope you are planning your garden. I look forward to capturing the changing colors of the seasons in photographs.
