Walks through your home neighborhood are more interesting when you take a few photographs and learn more about the community. The one story Colonial Revival style Carriage House was constructed around 1920.  It is located next to the Gaithersburg Arts Barn which was built around 1900.
The Carriage House, at 321 Kent Square Road, is currently owned by the Kentlands Citizens Assembly.  The property received a historic designation from the City of Gaithersburg in December, 2012.

On my regular walks through the Kentlands community, I often wondered about the history of the interesting building at 330 Firehouse Lane.  I thought that it was one of the original historic buildings in the community but noticed that it was not mentioned in articles that discussed the historical buildings.  So, I decided to contact the architect that occupies the ground floor to ask about the history.

Seeking the Colors of the Season
An important part of my regular exercise program is walking through Kentlands, our home community in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  The walks are usually extended to Lakelands, the adjoining neighborhood.   The exercise becomes photowalking when I have my camera in hand.

Kentlands residents are lucky to have O'Donnell's Sea Grill in the community.  O'Donnell's opened in Washington, DC in 1922 and has been an area tradition for 90 years.  The restaurant moved to a new building in Kentlands in 1997 and have been a very welcome addition to the area. 
When we think about dinner for a special occasion, O'Donnell's is at the top of the list.  We love the seafood dishes and are glad that the restaurant is only a few blocks from our home.

Kentlands kids and their parents are invited to have breakfast with the Bunny on Saturday, March 23, 2013.  There will be two breakfast sessions.
The first breakfast will be from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and the second session will be from 11:15 a.m. to noon.  The annual egg hunt will start  at 11 a.m., weather permitting.

Dolores and I noticed that the seeds in our bird feeder were going down rather quickly but we had noticed only a few birds this week.  Dolores, with her camera in hand, captured a photograph of the Kentlands neighborhood thief.  A squirrel was enjoying lunch at our bird feeder.
We, of course, are happy to see that our furry neighbors are well fed during the winter months.  You might have the same kind of thief in your community.

Runners and serious walkers go to Fleet Feet Sports in Kentlands to purchase their shoes and running gear.  However, you do not need to be a runner to appreciate all of the Kentlands community activities that are sponsored by Fleet Feet Sports.

We have a furry neighbor that visits every day for a meal.  This Kentlands squirrel likes to take advantage of the convenience of our bird feeder.  It is fun to watch the squirrel from our breakfast room window but we will soon need to purchase a new food supply for our feathered friends.
If you still have snow on the ground in your neighborhood, decorate a wildlife tree with treats for the birds and animals in your community.

Residents of Kentlands are currently focused on the incoming snow storm and the cancellations that are taking place in anticipation of heavy snow.
Do not forget that Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 10, 2013.  Move your clocks ahead an hour before going to bed on Saturday night.
The first day of spring is March 20.  Let's turn our thoughts to the flowers that be blooming in the Kentlands gardens.

For better health, I try to take daily walks through the communities of Kentlands and Lakelands in Gaithersburg, Maryland.   I usually have my camera with me and like to capture the colors of the season.  In early March, there are not many flowers in the area. 
After taking hundreds of photowalks, a little color will quickly catch my attention.  The colors that nature has provided this week are the blooms of the tiny crocuses that are now blooming.  They are easy to miss.  Watch closely for the small treasures as you walk through your neighborhood.

I like to know what is happening in the Kentlands real estate market.  On Sunday afternoon, I attended two open houses in the community.  One of the open houses had more traffic and was very distinctive.  RE/MAX agent Johnice Comer has a special marketing technique at open houses.

Dolores and I have lived in the Kentlands neighborhood in Gaithersburg, Maryland for many years and love the community.  It is always nice to hear nice things about the community that you call home. 
Bethesda Magazine named Kentlands as the "Best Gaithersburg Neighborhood" in its annual Best of Bethesda issue.  Lakelands and Washingtonian Woods were the runners up in the category.

We always advise home buyer clients to take walks through the neighborhoods they are considering for their home purchase.  It is a good way to see what is offered in the area and it is a good way to meet neighbors. We live and work in an ideal community in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC.  Gaithersburg is an unusual city in that it is debt free and the city provides high quality services to the residents.
