Montgomery County has issued a  Heat Emergency Alert  beginning 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27 through 9 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023. Residents should prepare for heat index values to reach 105 degrees during the afternoon hours. These dangerously hot temperatures and heat index values could cause heat-related illness such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Residents are urged to take precautions to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their pets, against heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Try to stay in an air-conditioned location. Remove the temptation by bringing unwanted and expired medications to the Gaithersburg Police Station for safe disposal on Drug Take-Back Day, Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The service is free, anonymous, and no questions will be asked. Days of Remembrance is an annual eight day period designated by the United States Congress to help residents remember and draw lessons from the Holocaust. At the April 3 Mayor and City Council Meeting, Mayor Jud Ashman presented Council Member Ryan Spiegel with the proclamation designating April 16 through 23 as “Days of Remembrance” in memory of the victims of the Holocaust and in honor of the survivors, rescuers, and liberators. When a federal official recently suggested gas stoves should be regulated the opposition rose up from across the political spectrum. And while the Biden administration tamped down the suggestion, Maryland's largest county has already voted to phase out gas appliance usage in most new construction.
Montgomery County on Nov. 30 approved legislation requiring most new residential and commercial buildings to be all-electric beginning in 2027. The law is one of the first in the mid-Atlantic region to ban gas in most new construction. Washington, D.C., also banned gas in most new construction starting in 2026.

The City’s recycling contractor will collect holiday trees along with branches and other yard trimmings during the weekly recycling pick up throughout the year.
