Unaccompanied Immigrant Children, Montgomery County, MarylandAccording to the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, 1,230 unaccompanied immigrant children came to Montgomery County and were released to sponsors between January and September.
In the entire region of Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, Fairfax County, and the District of Columbia, a total of 4,575 unaccompanied immigrant children arrived during this same period.

For the past eight years, the Montgomery County, Maryland public school enrollment has shown annual increases of over 2,000 students. An increase of over 2,500 students is expected this year with a total enrollment of more than 159,000 students. Neighboring Prince George's County expects an additional 2,051 students with a total enrollment close to 131,000 students. 
In 2015-2016, Maryland's public schools hit a record high of close to 880,000 students.

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Montgomery County, Maryland police officers will enforce distracted driving-related violations throughout the month as they watch for drivers talking on cell phones, texting and otherwise violating traffic laws. 
All of us see distracted drivers when we are on the road. Be careful and avoid a ticket or an accident by trying to sneak in a text while driving.

All school, child care and community activities in school buildings are canceled both days.
Snowfall amounts range from 27 inches in the Bethesda area to 33 inches in Germantown, and crews are struggling to clear the county’s roads.

Census data shows that the population of Montgomery County, Maryland reached 1,004,709 last July.  Montgomery County has been the largest jurisdiction in the state since 1989 and is now the first county in Maryland to reach the million milestone.
The total population for the county was up 1.3% from the previous year. 13,097 births exceeded the 5,467 deaths for what is called a “net natural increase”.  8,700 people moved into the county while 3,100 moved out of the county.

As of December 20, 2012 at 4:00 p.m., the Montgomery County Police Headquarters located at 2350 Research Boulevard in Rockville will close permanently.  All units formerly housed in the Headquarters building have moved or will be moving to the new Public Safety Headquarters located at 100 Edison Park Drive in Gaithersburg.
Beginning on December 21, all residents needing to visit the Headquarters should report to the new location.  Please be advised that you will need photo identification to be admitted into the building.
