Kentlands Photowalk: Thistle IMG 4601

Taking photowalks through our Kentlands community in Gaithersburg, Maryland is a good way to get a little exercise and to relax while photographing flowers and plants. Some would classify thistle as an annoying weed but if you look closely, you can enjoy the beauty of this small gift of nature.

Subhash Sharma This weed flower known as Bull thistle (English) Scottish, or Scotch thistle while a nuisance for the farmer has some edible & medicinal uses. Its edible parts include flowers leaves, oil, root, seed and stem. Its cooked root tastes somewhat like a Jerusalem artichoke,

Photographs should accurately depict the scene

In the world of real estate photographs, we see some of the best and too much of the worst in pictures. The best photographs are high quality images that accurately depict the scene. There is no longer any acceptable excuse for poor photographs.
Be careful not to over-edit photographs. Yes, almost any photograph can be improved by editing. I use the free photo editing service provided by iPiccy.com.
Prospective home sellers are advised to take a close look at the photographs used in recent listings and marketing materials when considering the services of a … (12 comments)

April Tulips in the Sun

I just read about a blog that discussed how quickly one can write a blog. My idea is to start with a photograph because most people would rather enjoy a nice photograph more than some wordy comments.
It is nice to see the April tulips and enjoy the warm sun after a long and severe winter. Enjoy the colors of spring with your camera in hand.

What do you photograph during December photowalks?

Those that follow my blogs know that I am an amateur photographer and am best known for my flower pictures. In December, there are not many flowers left in our Kentlands neighborhood. What do we photograph?
It’s time to check the colors of the plants and the leaves. Look closer for the beauty of nature that surrounds us. Take a walk through your home neighborhood with your camera in hand. If you are like me, you need a little exercise after sampling the wonderful holiday treats.

Kentlands Photowalk, December Colors

When I take walks through Kentlands, our home community in Gaithersburg, Maryland, I look for the colors of the season. During much of the year, there are flowers to photograph. In December, most of the flowers are gone but there is still much to see when you take notice of the small things provided by nature.
Dolores and I had a quiet Christmas Day at home and a wonderful Christmas dinner. Enjoy the holidays with your camera in hand!

Flowers have their own language

Clarksville real estate professional Debbie Reynolds posted a blog about the meaning of Facebook “Likes” and “Comments”. Debbie happens to be one of my favorite bloggers. Most of the time, Likes are about the same as a nod of the head in acknowledgement.
I receive hundreds of Likes on my photographs on Facebook and have a world-wide following. Many of the Likes are from other countries and are made by people that do not speak English. Yes, flowers have their own language and are loved by all, regardless of the language they speak or … (20 comments)

Hot Day Photowalking in Maryland

The hot days of summer have suddenly arrived in Maryland.  All of us need to take extra care as the heat index approaches 100 degrees this week.
I like to photowalk through our home community, Kentlands, in Gaithersburg, MD.  I find that the best time for daily walks is early in the morning.  And, I love the morning light for flower photography.
Get out early, with your camera in hand, to enjoy the colors of the season. It is easy to set aside the problems of the day when we focus our attention and our … (26 comments)

Missing Picnik?  Try ipiccy for your photo editing (It's FREE)
Many of us were comfortable with the use of Picnik for our easy editing of photographs.  And, we were upset when we received the notice that the Picnik service was being discontinued by Google and incorporated in Google+.  Picnik is now gone.   So, the search began for a replacement for Picnik.  Brad Andersohn recommended ipiccy.com for ActiveRain members and I am now using ipiccy for most of my photo editing.  I recommend the site and suggest it for those that are seeking any easy way to edit their photographs.  By … (61 comments)

Pumpkins Are Good!
A couple of the younger members of the Kelley family loved a visit to the farm in Georgia.  Big brother had to show his little sister how to size up the pumpkins.
When I see all of those pumpkins in the field, my thoughts turn to pumpkin pie!
Enjoy the fall activities and be sure to have your camera in hand for those special moments.

 Life is good!
Friday's Fotos ~ KISS     Life is way too complicated. We clutter our daily lives with so much gobbledegook we often cannot see straight. I almost get the feeling that we are over stimulated and without another "fix", we're going to crash and burn. Crashing and burning ain't all … (0 comments)

Photographs are very important for marketing real estate. In this post photographer Joan Pearsallprovide some tips for home owners and their listing agents on things to do to prepare a home for marketing photographs.
All sellers should remember that buyers have a process of elimination when selecting homes to view. Good photographs may not sell a home but poor photographs could eliminate it from the list of homes to be viewed.
