Montgomery County had an average of about 50 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people at this time last year. For the last several weeks, the County is averaging more than 200 reported cases per 100,000 residents. The County, like the national trend, is seeing reinfections in some residents and health officials say that natural immunity is not as strong as the immunity people get from vaccination and boosters.

Governor Larry Hogan and State Superintendent of Schools Karen Salmon announced today, March 25, that they are extending the closure of all Maryland public schools until April 24, 2020. All Montgomery County Public Schools buildings will be closed during this time.
In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, all MCPL branches and book drops will remain closed through April 24, 2020, in alignment with Montgomery County Public Schools. All programs, classes, activities and rentals scheduled during the closure are canceled.

Chef Dolores and I were up early this morning for a day trip to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. We wanted to see and photograph the annual Orchid Extravaganza Exhibit, the National Clivia Show and the blue poppies that only bloom for a few days each year.
We had beautiful weather for our trip and the exhibits were outstanding. They did have a very large crowd of visitors. We stopped at Applebee's in Kennett Square for a late lunch before heading home. By the way, the food at Applebee's was outstanding.

It had been close to a year since we visited Mad Fox Brewing Company at their Falls Church, Virginia location. We decided to go there for lunch and beer tastings when we were in the area.

It has been reported that JCPenney will be closing 18 of their stores including the location at Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg which will be closed this summer. The remaining inventory will be sold over the next several months with the final closing date expected to take place on July 5, 2019.  
The closings of Starbucks and McDonald’s at Lakeforest Mall were previously reported. Lakeforest Mall could be an ideal site for major redevelopment.
