The Maryland Department of Transportation has launched an update of the Maryland State Rail Plan and is seeking input from MARC and Amtrak passengers to help set priorities and goals for efficient, safe and sustainable freight and passenger rail service across the state. The online survey, available through January 15, asks participants to give impressions of existing service, rank their priorities for future rail service, and offer suggestions for new or expanded infrastructure.

Get a green start to the New Year by recycling as much as you can when you clean up from the holiday season. Natural trees can be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on your regular recycling day. Remove all decorations. Wrapping paper (only if it is not shiny, foil-lined or glittery), glass containers and many plastics can be easily recycled thanks to the City's single stream recycling program. Java Nation to Locate in Kentlands, Gaithersburg, Maryland
 
Java Nation, a locally owned coffeehouse and restaurant, announced that they’re opening a new location in Kentlands. They will take over the recently closed Starbucks location. Starbucks has moved to their new building with a drive thru feature.
Java Nation is best known for their house-roasted coffees, diverse food menu, and their wide variety of local craft beers, wines and artisan cocktails.
They currently have two locations, one in Kensington on Connecticut Ave and one in North Bethesda along Rockville Pike.
