When I posted this photograph on my Facebook timeline, I received the following comments from a Facebook friend in Dublin, Ireland:

Subhash Sharma  Although different tulip colours carry distinct meanings these tulips have a lovely story attached to them .It is said that a Turkish legend may be responsible for the red tulip's symbolism. The story goes that a prince named Farhad was love struck by a maiden named Shirin. When Farhad learned that Shirin had been killed, he was so overcome with grief that he killed himself - riding his horse over the edge of a cliff. It's … (22 comments)

I hope you are enjoying the spring flowers. When I posted this photograph on Facebook, one of my friends in Dublin, Ireland left the following comments:
Subhash Sharma  "These are lovely yellow tulips which in general signify friendship but are also associated with having a great smile. To be more specific it means there’s sunshine in your smile or it could also mean cheerfulness. So the yellow tulips can be used to describe a person who has a bright, radiant and enigmatic smile. But when it comes to the negative connotation of the yellow tulips, it symbolizes … (31 comments)

Subhash Sharma These Tulips are one of the world’s most easily recognized and loved flowers. The meanings of tulips coupled with the immediately identifiable shape of their colourful blooms make them a comfortable flower choice. They are not too elegant, too romantic, too big, too small, or too bright; the tulip is always just right. … (22 comments)

tulips: Colors of Spring in Kentlands - 04/12/16 03:06 AM
Colors of Spring in Kentlands

An easy way to get some needed exercise is to take walks through your home community.  Add a camera and you will be photowalking as you seek the colors of the season.  My photowalks are usually in our home community of Kentlands in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
We will be planting summer flowers and plants after Mother's Day.

Our tulip season is coming to an end in our area but I took hundreds of photographs while they were if full bloom. Here are a couple of pictures for your weekend enjoyment.

We have a beautiful day in Maryland and the weather was perfect for my early morning photowalk through Kentlands, our home community in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Have a great weekend and be sure to have your camera in hand to capture the special moments.

Enjoy the colors of spring, photograph a tulip

In Kentlands, daffodils and tulips are a sure sign of spring. Tulips have an edge with photographers because they tend to be more colorful.
Take a photowalk through your neighborhood and do take time to photograph the tulips.
Life is better when there are flowers to photograph.

tulips: April Tulips in the Sun - 04/28/14 04:06 AM
April Tulips in the Sun

I just read about a blog that discussed how quickly one can write a blog. My idea is to start with a photograph because most people would rather enjoy a nice photograph more than some wordy comments.
It is nice to see the April tulips and enjoy the warm sun after a long and severe winter. Enjoy the colors of spring with your camera in hand.

April is the time for tulips

If you follow my blogs on a regular basis, you already know that I like to photograph flowers. Spring is a special time for the enjoyment of flowers and tulips add much color to our gardens and communities.
Take a photowalk to find the tulips in your neighborhood. Enjoy the colors of the season. If tulips are not blooming in your community, take a close look at the other gifts of nature.

tulips: Tulips are blooming in Nashville - 04/13/14 04:53 AM
Tulips are blooming in Nashville

I have been watching for my friend Debbie Reynolds to post more pictures of the spring flowers in Clarksville, Tennessee. I think that Debbie has been too busy selling homes and building a new residence for her family.  My cousin, Penny Jones McWhirt, shared this photograph of tulips in Nashville.
If the tulips are in full bloom in your area, post your photograph in a comment. I am very anxious to see more spring flowers in Maryland. The severe March weather caused a late spring in our area.

Tulips in the Garden:  George Washington's Mount Vernon

When I suggest a visit to George Washington's Mount Vernon, the images of tulips may not be your first thoughts.  However, when you visit Mount Vernon during the spring, you will want to allow time to spend in the gardens.  The tulips will be in full bloom in April.
Plan to spend much of the day when you visit Mount Vernon.  There is much to see and do.  These photographs were taken when Dolores and I visited Mount Vernon last April.
Be sure to have your camera in hand to capture the … (28 comments)

Tulips in the Rain at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
Cold rainy days in the winter bring wishes for the colorful days of spring that we are anxious to enjoy.  All of us in Maryland will be watching for the tulips to bloom and the spring showers that will make the flowers grow.
Those of us that live in the Kentlands community in Gaithersburg appreciate the presence of many lovely gardens and the flowers that will brighten our days.
Many of us try to schedule day trips and weekend adventures to places that will allow us to escape from the pressures of … (29 comments)
