.DRAMATIC CHANGE!
Here was a room that lacked any type of cohesive flow.  The clients wanted to keep a southwest feel because all of their furniture was of that style.  They were open to paint, so we went with a hill country red.  Their furniture arrangement closed off the room and made it appear very small.  By rearranging the furniture, we opened up the space and made the room appear dramatically larger.  The color on the walls highlighted all of their furniture.  Most likely, this type of staging could only work in texas or a southern area.  But if the house … (4 comments)

These homeowners wanted to dress up their living room and wanted a new fireplace to be the focal point.  Before we staged, we tore out the tiles and the boring, 2x4 that was acting as a mantel.  This entire renovation was less than $1,000.00 and look how it changes the room.  This before shot shows how 'lost' the fireplace w as.  The fireplace as it was, was not a great selling point.

It is amazingly consistent amongst real estate agents and builders alike - they all seem to wait til the last minute (or weeks after the true last minute) to call up and want to schedule a staging IMMEDIATELY.  We all know how much it takes to put together a staging after the first phone conversation but I'm pretty sure the clients aren't aware of all that goes into a staging.

I know many of you stagers, like myself, sometimes run into smallish living rooms when staging.  I found some compact chairs that are neat and small and quite classy.  These good looking leather chairs fit the bill where a bigger chair simply would not.   I found a company that is running a special on these at vikinghome.com.  These chairs can fit nicely into bedrooms as well as small living rooms or offices.  The  wood and leather are beautiful and they come in many colors.  Here is how they fit in this small living room we staged a couple of weeks ago.

It is easy to get too feminine when staging master bedrooms.  We stagers need to keep our male buyers in mind as well when we get into designing this space that can easily lend itself to a feminine feel.  There are many ways to balance out that girly girl feeling.  In this bedroom, I initially hung white  and aqua curtains.  I also did not have the brown rug down.  The room just felt and looked way too girly so I traded out the curtains for the ones you see in black and brown.  Adding the brown and black touches with pillows/rug … (6 comments)

I see a lot of stagings where rugs were not used. I think that the color that rugs bring is essential to having a truly impactful finished project.  Look at these pictures and try to imagine them without the rugs.  Not only do the colorful rugs dramatically help the rooms gain personality, but they anchor seating arrangements and define spaces.  I would love to see others' use of rugs.   I have a wide variety of rugs that serve so many home styles.  I hate storing them, but love using them!

I love thinking a little outside the box when it comes to wall decor.  One of the things that come in such a huge variety and address a lot of wall design, are plates.   I would love to see different uses of plates, in any area of the house.   I put these light weight plates up with velcro - that velcro can also hold heavier objects, just be sure to use the industrial strength!
