home: Another Historic Home of Fair Oaks - the Alvin Heim Home - 03/30/16 08:52 AM

The history of Fair Oaks is full of intertwining families, and so it is with this month’s Old Home feature - the Alvin L. Heim Home at 4940 Minnesota Ave. Alvin came to Fair Oaks from Indiana in 1909, buying 10 acres on Minnesota, tucked against what is now the North Ridge Golf Course. He married Vena Bishop in 1915, and had three children - Adolph, Alvin W., and daughter Thalia (born 1922).  By 1929, it appears Alvin Heim had built the two story home which still stands on Minnesota, although it has been substantially added to.

Redesigning your kitchen is a daunting task, with many options.  My best advise? Hire a Pro Designer who knows what they are doing!
A few years ago I sold a beautiful charmingly rustic home in Carmichael to Debby and Mark.  The only weak spot was the dated kitchen.  But it is dated no more. Debby had me over to see the finished remodel, accomplished with the design help of Jean Woods, Kitchen Designer for Loomis Cabinet Sales.

home: A Carbon Monoxide Detector Saved My Mom's Life! - 12/09/12 01:27 AM
The call came about 7pm.  "Sal, something is beeping in my house and I can't make it stop. I'm only cooking fish and that danged detector is going off... there's not even any smoke!"  It was my 89 year old Mom, who had recently moved in to a new rental - a 7 year old beautiful home in a retirement community. 
"Turn off your oven and we'll be right over.  And open your doors and windows!!!"

Fair Oaks, Ca is a charming community on the banks of the American River, upstream of Sacramento. Over 100 years old, it has one of the few Old Towns in the Sacramento area, plus beautiful neighborhoods composed of craftsman and traditional homes.  And chickens?? Yep, we're known for our wandering chickens... a few of whom you will hear in my introduction!

home: Those interest rate reduction notices may be legitimate! - 07/01/11 03:07 AM
I keep getting notices from banks, including my own, that they will lower my interest rate on my home mortgage into the 3s with no fees.  Yeah, right... same day that pigs fly, I think. But it's actually true. I heard it on Clark Howard's radio show!
Then last week I got my letter from Chase. "3.88%... fixed rate... 10 years... no costs... no points... no application... no nothing except lower payments". Could it really be?

home: Watch out for wrong information on-line.... - 05/05/11 09:01 AM
My escrow almost blew up today, because my buyer found out the HOA payment was $50 a month more than she thought.  "It's HOW MUCH??? I was told it was much less", she said.
Hmmmm... why did she think that? Did I give her that information???
Come to discover she got the wrong info from Trulia.com, who had downloaded the original listing, but never updated after the listing agent corrected his typo.
