sam shueh: Getting ready for 2016 Superbowl - 01/29/16 12:12 AM
February 7, 2016 is scheduled for the Superbowl.

Santa Clara Levi Stadium is hosting the game. It is a new stadium in the midst of Silicon Valley not far from my brokerage. How can Denver Brancos prevail in 2016 Super Bowl 50. It beats the heck out of me. Our home team stadium Levi Stadium is where the game will be played. That was completed in 2014 at the cost of $1.3 billion dollars. The noise and traffic and so so school score did not seem affect the home price. In fact home prices went up +15% in Santa Clara while Palo Alto, CA … (12 comments)

sam shueh: Palo Alto Home Price Update-2016 - 01/18/16 09:02 AM
Palo Alto had the most number of professionals with attorneys, physicians and academic professionals who had full employment. The number of home owners who bought the properties with cash or have no mortgage did not prompt to any sizable home value loss. Its price erosion stayed 15 months. The unemployment rate in PA was ½ of other cities in the south Bay at 7% and recovered in Q2 2010. By mid-2015 it remained at 2.4%.

During the 15 months the avg single family home of interest dropped to -8%. But some of the other neighborhoods the price may have dropped a total … (3 comments)

sam shueh: Gadgets one does not need in 2016 - part 2 - 12/21/15 04:22 AM
 iPad Pro

Apple released a 12.9 inch tablet meets laptop features in September of 2015. The reviews were mostly positive. It runs iOS 9 and bells and whistles of most laptop applications with a $100 pressure sensitive pencil. (iPAD PRO). It has a larger screen sleek screen run faster than iPad. It needs a laptop size case with 32G of memory.
It starts at $800 and with a $100 pencil which will likely to disappear, adding 128G. One is looking at laptop price. So you got anther laptop that needs a case to carry around plus another case for iPad Pro?

sam shueh: Gadgets one does not need in 2016 - 12/21/15 02:34 AM
As we get to the end of year, we like to pet our back buying our loved ones or ourself a present....

I look around me and ask a few realtors what they thought were excessive and not needed.

1. iWatch/Fitbit -
I have iWatch engineers as my RE clients so I get a different version way earlier than the press.  While I am not a bike fanatic I do work out regularily and watch my consumption and intake carefully (see WORK OUT HIGH TECH STYLE).
This iWatch was unveiled this year. About 6 millions of iwatches were sold.
This gadget is not cheap. Apple watch sport … (10 comments)

sam shueh: Yamaha is in car development business - 12/19/15 01:32 AM
While Yamaha is known for its well refined piano design and to a lessor extend into motor-cycle business.

This is the story of little know car development especially its futuristic car exhibit very attractive appearance.

Can a Japanese company mainly has its foot into motorcycles transition into making refined automobiles?
Well, Honda motorcycles were well publicized when Viet Cong solders fled on their Honda bikes while pursing US helicopters and jets could not keep up with these nimble bikes. They were rugged in design and very reliabile. Recalling its first S500 was a 1500 pound sedan 500 cc with a motor cycle chain, it was sold … (5 comments)

sam shueh: You write your own life insurance policy! - 12/17/15 02:57 AM
I always thought contracting cancer which often have no cure is from ones genes. Your dad died from stomach cancer. The likelihood for his children having similar problem is high.

We live in a highly pollutant environment, with toxin, eating processed foods with harmful substance.

Our genes if not sooner will cease to fight off cancerous cells and contract cancer also.

Researchers at SUNY Stony Brook recently reported interesting findings.( Nature 2015).

They determined only 10-30% is intrinsic and balance 70 to 90% is controllable or extrinsic (see table below).

In other words, how well we take care of ourselves have a lot to do to reduce the risk factors.

I am curious if you … (10 comments)

sam shueh: Millennials have limited saving in the bank - 12/14/15 07:24 AM
While we all hope the well educated millennials will start being the major buyers and baby boomers will be downsizing by selling their empty nest. More than half of millennials have less than $1,000 savings (howmuch.net).
Google Consumer suveys last month age from 18 to 24 and 24 through 35. Again Americans overall (62%) got less than $1,000 in their saving account.  Most stated they have good jobs and better chance for advancement.
I know in my area, Silicon Valley, California, I have seen the highly compensated DINK (double income no kids) who make top wages are asking their parents to pitch … (8 comments)

sam shueh: Ways to turn off heat when not needed? - 11/30/15 11:41 AM

Turning off the heat in your home during the time you are away is the best way to conserve energy.

If you are in a cold region with a risk of frozen water pipes, it may be a good idea to wrap insulator around exposed pipes. You also need to keep the heat low enough to reheat the house quickly.  May be set the heat around 40-50s F during the day by not turn off to risk frozen water pipes..

The days of controlling the feed back loop with manually determine set point is about over.

After a Thanksgiving feast using this calculator Thanksgiving Calorie Calculator .
I consumed at least 2,490 calories from the dinner which converts to 90 grams of fat. This is 0.20# of fat. I weight myself I gained 0.6# three days later as a result of the indulgence.  The additional 0.4 # could be from other intake foods as it is hard to control metabolic energy with consumption. I learned about different types of body fat like subcutaneous vs visceral fat types … (10 comments)

sam shueh: Things to be thankful from realtor Sam Shueh - 11/12/15 01:17 AM
T'is the Season for Thanksgiving, how nice it is for Dan Stewart of Happy Grasshopper to sponsor a contest to document what we thank for from recent years.

The first thing I am thankful for is my spouse and family who does not mind that I take on a career that gets paid when a deal is closed.  She is a civil service employee so I do not have to worry about health care cost or a lack of it. I am starting my second decade of something I wanted to try. In fact, I am the only survior from a group of about ten people … (7 comments)

sam shueh: My iPhone wallpaper is a hello kitty ! - 11/02/15 11:08 AM
I had this "COMING SOON" wall paper on my iPhone.
Since the holiday is over, I am going to switch my wallpaper to a different one as soon as I can get to it.
My daughter-in-law suggests I should look at some popular Asian logos.  Hello Kitty is free to download.  I saw one of Hello Kitty flights flying to Taipei, Taiwan from Dubai, United Arabic Emirates. The younger flight attendants (not the grandma type) wore cat costumes and serve modifed food and special utensils. Even the pillows had kitty logo making the trip interesting.

I picked the dark color of this design to conserve … (13 comments)
