I am in Silicon Valley, California. The Great Recession did not impact high tech business to a larger extend.  Apple, Amazon, FB, Twitter, Google were adding staff all along.  Apple, the largest employer could not find enough good people from the retrenched tech workers and had to rely on H1B to conduct its … (3 comments)

sam shueh: Apple is working on self-driving cars - 08/14/15 06:31 AM

Apple is woking a a self driving car using a different technology and could be getting close to a proto type validation beta test. They have several hundred engineers working on an electric proto type in an east San Francisco Bay.

There is a site named GoMentum Station designated as a test site for this type of vehicles. There are many companies in SF Bay like Tesla, Google are … (5 comments)

sam shueh: Cost of a residential lot in the US - 07/28/15 03:30 AM

In 1975, you could have snatched a piece of the South for under $15,000, on average. Forty years later, that chunk of land is worth, well, $15,000. Of course, land values have exploded on the east and west coasts, but the likes of Mississippi, Oklahoma and Alaska and remote rural neighborhoods have hardly budged.

The data, pulled from the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, were used to create an animated map of the fluctuation of land prices over the past four decades. The value was essentially determined by the average cost of construction removed from the value of the home.

The trend is, higher prices. … (4 comments)

sam shueh: Attaining AR 100,000 points - 07/19/15 02:06 AM
Time goes fast when you are having fun.
I joined AR since old blog on Trulia (Q&A) was closed its doors at the beginning of 2015. They told us to go to AR. I should have saved my Trulia content but I did not.  Several years of  work was lost. Without knowing where else to go, I started reading AR's Q&A. I was debating on whether to buy zipcode ads which caught my eye. I want to thank AR for saving me a bundle of money. Until recently I did not even know how to save my thoughts as a blog draft or … (24 comments)

sam shueh: Santa Clara County, CA Home Price during 2014 - 01/04/15 10:19 AM
The following is the PRICE CHANGE for a typical sf home(3-4 br, 1300-2000 sf) over the past 3 years.
It is based on avg $/sf as opposed to avg home selling prices. Several zip codes are lumped together to keep the sample size large enough to be statistically significant.

Unless there is additional economic momentum like more jobs creation the appreciation rate is tapering off (reach asymptotically as professionals call it). Some outliing cities ty.p 1 hour driving from South Bay job centers like Hollisters, Salinas are still  not nearly where they were during the last historical peak.

Enjoy,
