The contest was named in honour of our founder and my mentor, Val Sharp.

redesign: Celery & Chocolate - 09/30/11 01:44 AM

Sounds good doesn't it?  Was your first thought a childhood snack ... with chocolate as the substitute for peanut butter?
When choosing a colour scheme for your home or any room, using the colours found in nature's palette always works beautifully.  Just imagine the pale silvery green of an olive tree with the dark brown branches ... very nice !
View some very inspiring photos HERE via my favorite HOUZZ website.

redesign: Quote of the Day - 09/30/11 01:34 AM
"Your home is where you live, not just physically but spiritually and emotionally as well." ~ Oprah (as quoted in Home Rules by Nate Berkus)
When we redecorate with what is already owned, living well can be an affordable luxury - one that we should all invest in.   This room has a very tranquil quality while at the same time looks so warm and inviting.  Thank you to the homeowner and my client for permission to share. … (1 comments)

Please have a look and let me know.
Feedback is always appreciated.
Have a great day !

redesign: For the Love of Books - 01/25/11 11:03 PM
If your favorite sitting room was stripped down to only the furniture and you had to choose just one type of accessory to use, what would it be?
For me, it would be BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS.  They really are versatile and can also make your house feel like a home.  They provide so much insight into who you are and what you love.  They can be grouped by colour for added impact or wrapped in plain white paper to tone it down.  They can be shelved with pages facing outward - although this would drive a true book lover mad !  They can be … (1 comments)

redesign: Congrats to my recent graduates - 11/01/10 05:55 AM
Just completed another 5 day redesign & staging course, welcoming two more members to the CRDA.  Congratulations to Michele Pare of Beaconsfield, Quebec and Margaret Pereira of Mississauga, ON.  Good job, ladies.
What was especially noteworthy for this class, was that all three client homes were repeat customers.  Two of the homeowners had moved since their first redesign, and the third one is now planning to sell.  This says alot for the benefit of our services.  My favorite type of redesign job is the "move in" ... helping people settle into their new home and essentially making them "feel at home".

redesign: Get Settled - 07/29/10 11:39 PM
Have recently moved myself and speaking from the experience of helping many clients ... it really takes time and effort to settle in after a move.  It is essential to understand your needs and set your priorites accordingly.
If you have pets, they may benefit from a brief kennel stay during your move.  Once they come home, ensure that their feeding station and bedding feels familiar to them to ease any anxiety.  With young children in the family, be sure to get their playspace organized right away.  This will keep them occupied, giving you time to unpack and organize other rooms.  If … (3 comments)

redesign: ladybugs ! - 10/22/09 11:53 AM
As you know, the ladybug is part of my logo. This beautiful little bug is also well recognized as a symbol of good luck. When I looked out my patio door yesterday, I noticed there were hundreds of ladybugs perched upon it. I realize they're probably everywhere at this time of year, but I'm going to take this as a sign ... they were sent to tell me that my business will now flourish and grow. I certainly will have more time to devote to my own marketing efforts now that my term as President of the CRDA is up, and … (1 comments)

redesign: Once upon a time ... I was GREEN - 03/21/09 08:28 AM
Going GREEN is very popular these days, with everyone having a different spin on it.  Interestingly enough, when I started my business in 2004 I was very GREEN (and I don't just mean "new at it").  My website, business cards, brochures and promo cards were a lovely shade of sage GREEN.  When I look back at it now ... ugh !!  It just doesn't appeal to me anymore.  Funny how our color preferences change over time.  But of course, my GREEN hue was very timely in that REDESIGN is the ultimate recycling concept for home decor ... we simply re-use what … (3 comments)

redesign: Love the Space you're in ... - 01/14/09 12:10 AM
Here is my first "media appearance" for 2009.  Just helping yummy mummy's everywhere to love their space !  Simple tips for redesigning a room and giving it a fresh new look.
Or maybe it was 2008.  I had actually forgotten that this article was sumbitted.  It pays to do a Google search of your name periodically !

redesign: Suffering from Cabin Fever? - 01/06/09 01:03 AM
Has the cold weather got you stuck indoors? Tired of looking at those four walls. Is your room stuck in a rut?Treat yourself to a room makeover - in an hour or in a day. Got an hour to kill? Remove all accessories from your mantel, bookcase or table tops. Group similar items together - candles, books, plants. Try arranging them differently. Look for similar items in other rooms and create interesting vignettes with items that work well together. Are your accent cushions patterned on one side only? Try the solid colour instead. Change your lampshades. The possibilities are endless. And … (1 comments)

redesign: I love what I do ! - 11/20/08 10:39 PM
I say that often.  Each and every time we complete a redesign, in fact.  The client's reaction reinforces the feeling:

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I can't tell you enough how absolutely thrilled I am with my new space. I love the basement with my two leather pieces down there. I can actually see myself spending time down there, now that it's so inviting and comfortable.
It looks amazing! I can't believe what you and your team did with my living room and dining room. Throughout the past few years my best friend and I have rearranged my furniture … (10 comments)

redesign: What a difference a day makes ... - 11/03/08 08:43 AM
The impact of redesign on a client is worth noting.  My October graduates made a dramatic difference to a living / dining room for a client and this is what she said:
When I came home on Friday, opened the front door and saw the transformation of our living room/dining room, I said WOW!!!!  And then I just stood there taking it all in.  Not only did it look great, it exuded calmness and my husband said "Now I can breathe!"
I was amazed at how well our furniture worked with the pieces I brought back from Sweden after my mother's … (1 comments)

redesign: Layers & Textures - 10/29/08 12:42 PM
It's time to get warm and cosy. It's time to settle in and prepare your home for the approaching winter season. The nights are definitely cooler and darkness comes far too soon. But these tips are sure to help you enjoy the season.
- add a heavier drapery panel over your sheers - use fabrics like cashmere, ultra-suede, velvets, velours and wool blends - add jewel toned pillows for elegance - add faux fur throws for a touch of luxury - layer your lighting too; group small lamps and lanterns together to warm a dark corner - include natural elements from … (0 comments)

redesign: CRDA hits mainstream media ! - 09/15/08 09:01 AM
The time has come for CRDA to shine in the media spotlight ! In partnership with eRenovate (CasaGuru), our TV segment on REDESIGN aired on Global TV Saturday September 13, 2008. For those that missed it, here is a link to my fellow CRDA members Karen Kostyshyn, Sandra MacLennan and Cyrese Samuel for pulling this beautiful room together - three talented women that I am proud to call my friends.

redesign: In the News ! - 09/15/08 05:38 AM
I'm very pleased to report that I was recently quoted (along with one of my CRDA colleagues - Susan Brown), in mainstream media.
The article, entitled "Tricks to make small spaces seem bigger", appeared in the Globe and Mail Real Estate Section, on August 22, 2008.
Again, thanks to Sandra MacLennan for noticing it.  I had forgotten all about my telephone interview with the reporter (Lauren La Rose) from Canadian Press !!

redesign: Remembering Summer - 08/23/08 11:39 PM
Back to School & Back to Work
For many, the month of September is a time for new beginnings and fresh ideas, getting organized and settling in.   But the weather is still nice so continue to enjoy your outdoor spaces while you reflect upon memories made during the summer holidays.
Did YOU have a good summer?  A lot of photos, shells found on the beach and a couple of cute souveniers?  How best to remember the fun and reflect on time well spent?  Narrow floating shelves in a hallway, shadow boxes, and multi-matte frames are a great way to capture … (5 comments)
