This past Saturday, I stopped by one of my favorite places, the Sparks Marina Park. The Reno Association For The Education of Young Children (RAEYC) was having a "Walk and Family Fun Day". The association was showcasing all the educational opportunities for the children around the city. There were booths, games, Mother Goose Storytime, a bounce house, crafts and more. There were families, strollers and as many dogs as their were kids enjoying the day in the park. The 2nd annual "Shop With A Sheriff" was held Saturday, December 12th at the Fernley Wal*Mart. The goal was to raise $1000 to take 10 children and let them spend $100 each. I sponsored a child for $100, so I wanted to be there when the kids went shopping. The red balloons tied to a shopping cart was the key indicator, along with a uniformed Deputy tagging along. The children varied in age and there was at least one family member along to help the child with selections and advice. December 5th was a cold winter night but that didn't stop the people from bundling up and going on the tour. The first house was the "Art House" and featured some of our finest artists with their designs available for Christmas gift giving.
