fort worden: Port Townsend Landscape - 09/14/10 02:23 PM
Port Townsend has a wonderful state park called Fort Worden, an old army post dating back to the late 1800's.  It is full of wondrous things, including trails through the forest.  On one of our walks there earlier this summer I caught a glimpse (and a photo) of this magnificent guy.
We have a lot of deer in Port Townsend, sometimes too many if you are trying to grow your favorite roses. They are generally used to people and are seen in most neighborhoods.

fort worden: Summer in Port Townsend/ Music Festivals - 05/31/10 10:54 AM
This area is full of wonderful music all summer long, with every type of music you can think of.
Beginning in July there is Fiddle Tunes, Chamber Music Festival, Jazz Festival and Blues Festival.  Most are performed at the Centrum Campus at Fort Worden, with some of the local clubs hosting performances in the clubs.  Great music and great fun.
Also, the Olympic Music Festival beginning in July and continuing every weekend, Classical Concerts in the Barn.
There is also some fun music at the Saturday Farmers Market, and last Sat. it was one of my favorites, the Limpopo Band.

fort worden: Port Townsend's Haunted Buildings - 10/27/09 05:14 AM
PORT TOWNSEND'S HAUNTED BUILDINGS
Port Townsend is a favorite place for some amateur ghost hunters, and their findings include 3 well known historical buildings.  Using film, digital cameras, audio and video recording systems, and computerized surveilance gear they feel they can determine extra paranormal activity.  They feel Port Townsend is one of the most haunted communities in the state of Washington.
The "Commander's House" at Fort Worden showed some "orbs" (not visible to the naked eye) in photograpy taken by a  team of "ghost hunters" that visited Port Townsend  in 2006.   Built in the late 1800's and open to the public as a … (9 comments)

fort worden: Centrum For the Arts, Port Townsend - 07/05/09 01:11 PM
Incredible and unique center for the arts
Over 30 years ago some visionary citizens had an idea of a better use for the old, sprawling 1890's army base on the waterfront in Port Townsend called Fort Worden.  This was the beginning of Centrum,  a unique center for education and enjoyment of the arts, serving local citizens and visitors from all over the world. The facilities of Fort Worden include many buildings that were barracks, officers quarters, shops, hospital, theater, chapel, along with bunkers, acres of forest with trails, and a gorgeous shoreline with lighthouse.  It is also home to award winning … (2 comments)
