facebook: When To Facebook and Tweet For Maximum Reach - 10/05/10 02:27 AM
I have often referred to one my favorite social media bloggers Dan Zarrella , and once again he published a fansinating study.  Dan approaches social media from a very analytical viewpoint, constantly measuring consumption.
In his latest study he measured what time an article shared on Facebook is most likely to get viewed.  The answer: 9 am EST.  I would guess because that is when most people are getting into to work and they are sitting down and checking their Facebook account.
More interesting studies on Facebook usage.
It's interesting to compare this to a similar study where he monitored when … (14 comments)

facebook: My New Favorite FREE Social Media Tool - Nutshell Mail - 07/30/10 04:19 AM
I am LOVING Nutshell Mail.  It makes keeping up with your Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace and Twitter accounts a snap.  Simply go to www.nutshellmail.comand enter your information.  It takes about five minutes to customize.  Then, depending on the frequency you set, you'll receive an email with a round up of these services.
And of course social media wouldn't be social if you weren't interacting.  On each of the updates, there is the opportunity to like, comment, share, retweet, reply, direct message and more.
Here is an example of the email I get from Nutshell.  It was too long to include in its entiretity, so … (9 comments)

facebook: The Importance Of "Liking" and "Sharing" on Facebook - 05/20/10 07:33 AM
This week Active Rain announced they added the "Like" button to blog posts.  While this is just plain cool, it is really significant as it allows others to easily talk about your posts on their Facebook walls.  That is a huge part of social media, to get OTHER people talking about your business.
Along this theme, people often ask, "should I tweet and post" my listings?  That answer is debatable, but one thing's for sure, it is even more effective if OTHER people are tweeting and posting your listings.  Let me show you how you can now help this happen on Zillow.  … (45 comments)

facebook: Privacy Warning For New Personal Data Aggregation Site - Please Read - 05/17/10 06:20 AM
A friend of mine recently told me that he was appalled to learn of a new website that aggregates data about people, a lot from social media sites, called Spokeo.com.  He said the first time he went there, he found a lot of information about himself, including his children's names! And if you pay the site's small monthly subscription fee, the amount of information you can access is creepy.
What you can do:
Type your name into the directory on Spokeo.com and copy the URL.  Then go to this Privacy Page and enter the information to request your information be removed … (14 comments)

facebook: New Privacy Options on Facebook- How Much 'Face' Do You Want To Put Forward? - 12/17/09 01:37 AM
Recently Facebook expanded the options available to users to better control who they allowed to see what information on their Facebook page.  I encourage you to really think though what policies you enact on your page to correspond to your goals of using the site.
Are you just using Facebook to interact with your close Friends and you post very personal information?  Then you may want to consider setting your privacy options high, and only allow people you've personally let into your sphere see your information and photos.
Are you using Facebook to communicate information about you, the real estate professional?  … (25 comments)

facebook: Some Monday Humor - Courtesy Of Social Media and Conan - 09/21/09 03:54 AM
If you aren't into social media, you'll find this particularly funny.

Ironically, social media is one of the reasons that this skit has become so popular.  Yes, Conan has a significant reach.  But it has become compounded as people share this viral video through YouTube, blogging, twittering, etc. Viral video can be powerful, can you think of one for your business?
Oh, if you watch this and have the grand idea to go buy the URL youtwitface.com, it is already taken.  And t-shirt sales for the site are taken too.

facebook: 3 Groups Of People To Incorporate Into Your Online Marketing Plan - 08/05/09 04:38 AM
I was at RE Bar Camp San Fran today. In one of many social media discussions we had today, a light bulb went off for me to help people plan their online marketing.
Basically, you have 3 buckets of people you always have to be thinking about to make sure that you are always working your funnel or pipeline of clients.
Current Friends Acquaintances People you don't know Current friends - These are people that you already that would likely search you out by name.  For example, on Facebook, they would know to type in your name if they wanted to get in … (40 comments)

facebook: A Detailed Lay Out Of My Social Media Marketing Plan - 07/08/09 05:22 AM
I often say that social media can be overwhelming if you don't have a plan.  However, sometimes without specifics, this might not make sense.  So instead of blogging about the theory of planning, I am just going to lay out my personal plan.  This is just what works for me, I am sure others have very different strategies and I would be interested in hearing them.
My goals:   1) Reach and educate real estate professionals about Zillow and internet advertising in general.   2) Keep in touch with my sphere of influence 3) Keep abreast of current real estate topics and 4) … (30 comments)

facebook: Reaching International Buyers With Social Networking - 08/15/08 06:20 AM
This week we had a friend stay with us who is originally from Hungary, but is currently spending a year in China.  He is very well traveled, mostly because of his job and also because of personal interests- so he is a fascinating person to talk to as he has a worldly take on things.  He is also totally dependent the Internet, especially skype, for communication because of time differences and calling costs.
We were at dinner last night, as most dinner conversations do with me and my husband, we started talking about websites and particularly social networking.  While we were … (5 comments)

facebook: Permisision To Phase Out Permission Marketing? - 11/26/07 12:05 AM
"Permission marketing" is a common marketing term that we have all heard time and time again.  As Realtors, we have all been trained to ask "do you mind if I include you on my mailing list".  Is there still value in building a database?  Definitely.  Is there still value in asking this?  Of course.
The other day I sat through a new Realtor educational session where building a database was taught as being one of the most four valuable things you can do as a Realtor.  The words "permission marketing" were cavalierly thrown around throughout the presentation.  The trainer was someone who … (7 comments)

facebook: Is Facebook Something I Get At My Public Library??? - 08/07/07 11:21 AM
I just got back from Inman Connect in San Francisco and I had my first real "I am getting old moment" ever.
In case you missed the event, let me wrap it up for you in two words: social media.  Ok, I thought-  I work for a dot com that embraces social media, I blog, I subscribe to feeds, I am part of a social media group here on Active Rain, I have a handheld email devise- I am with it.  Then I went out to lunch with a co-worker who is 25....  I suddenly knew how my mom must feel when I … (8 comments)
