If you are not familiar with the Zillow Mortgage Marketplace, Spencer just did a great recap of the program here. This is a great place to start learning about how to use the service.

Here are some numbers after the first full week of Zillow Mortgage Marketplace being live on the site.
Interesting to see where the most quotes are coming in geographically and to see which states are getting the most quotes per loan.
If you have recently requested to participate in ZMM, please know that it typically takes about three days to get the verification process completed. We did receive a surge of applications upon the program's launch, so it might be a little longer than that right now. The coverage continues to roll in today about the new Zillow Mortgage Marketplace. Overall, the response has been overwhelming positive!
Consumers seem to like it too. The service has been available for about 18 hours now and so far there have been 2,205 loan requests! Only 1,257 of these requests have been responded to, so that leaves 948 leads waiting for someone to help them.

Unfortunately I was on a plane this morning which allowed Spencer to beat me to the punch on announcing the opening of Zillow Mortgage Marketplace today and coverage is already spreading like crazy in the RE Net.

This morning Active Rain made the bold announcement that they were doing away with thier point system. The change is going to go into effect late Thursday night/early Friday morning.
Now I know that there are many of you who have worked hard to accumulate the points you have, self included. In fact, a number of us wear our point total like a badge of honor.

This just in, the Zillow family of partners grew a lot bigger today with the addition of all Realogy listings to the site.

zillow: How Exclusive Buyer's Agents Can Use Zillow

Got a question the other day from an agent who exclusively works with buyers, asking how he can use Zillow to generate business. The question stemmed from a post I wrote entitled Online Display Advertising For Branding vs Clicks.
Advertising in general for this type of agent can be a little trickier because one doesn't have listings to leverage as a marketing tool. Here were some of my suggestions for him (all are free!):

Whenever I read a post about Zillow there are inevitability comments that sound like something from Goldilocksand The Three Bears fairy tail- My Zestimate is too high, My Zestimate is too low, My Zestimate is just right....
My answer has always been the same, it is simply a starting point and is no way an appraisal. It is something that attracts users to the site and creates a massive and dynamic audience for you then to market to, whether that be posting your listings for free or participating in a Discussion.

zillow: Color Coded Interactive Map of 2007 Q3 Real Estate Market Trends

A few weeks ago I blogged about Zillow releasing 2007 Q3 Quarterly Real Estate Market Reports. For 'spreadsheet people', you could spend a lot of time going through the excel document and drilling down into thousands of local numbers.
Luckily for us more 'visual people'. A senior developer at Zillow was able to put the Guitar Hero game down long enough to create this very cool interactive map that color codes trends across the US.

zillow: Take Edgeio Off Your Listing Presentations

There is now one less place to upload your listings for free. Last week the Edgeio, an online listing service, made the decision to cease operations.
The company had raised $5 Million since its inception in 2005, which apparently didn't buy them enough time to tum a profit.
What lessons can be learned from this unfortunate fate? For one thing, while listings are valuable content, it takes a whole lot more than listings to build a profitable and highly-trafficked real estate website.

I often get asked how investors can use Zillow. With a database of over 70 million homes, one of the best ways to use the site is to evaluate trends. Each quarter Zillow organizes this data and releases it at a link that can be found at the very bottom on the Zillow home page. Below I will highlight some of the national trends for the July-September 2007 data that was just released, but you can follow the link to find data for your specific area.

Today an article was posted on RealtyTimes.com entitled Can Realtor.com Make Money? by Blanche Evans.
Overall, it was a great recap of the history of Move.com (formerly Homestore) and an interesting question to ponder. Ms. Evans does a good job laying out the facts, as only she can.
However, there were one quote in the article that I specifically wanted to address, as I found it to be quite infuriating. It was quote by Steve Cook, former Vice President of Public Affairs of the National Association of Realtors and today working with Alan Dalton on a top-secret project at Move.
