It's All about Family - Wednesday at the Masters!
Wednesday morning at the Masters Golf Tournament was cold but sunny!  For those who don't know this area of Georgia and South Carolina, it is a short 45 minute ride from our home in Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick, SC to the Masters parking lot!
Thank goodness, Wednesday's wind was not gusting like it did on Monday and Tuesday.  By 1:00 pm, the day had warmed to a balmy 74 degrees for the Par 3 contest.  (Did you know that Augusta National has a Par 3 course adjacent to the regular course?)  In addition to … (6 comments)

Are You a Golfer? What's Augusta National Like? Part 2
Drive into the public parking areas of Augusta National and it's hard not to be aware of ‘green.'  Everything you see is lush and green and manicured.  (Most home owners would be happy with grass as beautiful as in the parking lots at Augusta National.)  Most fans arrive early to walk the course and see the golfers - several times!  Many of the ‘big names' make early tee times for practice rounds so when the gates to the course open at 8:00 AM, the long lines have already formed.  Who would want … (6 comments)

mccormick: A Trip through the History of McCormick, South Carolina - 02/24/09 10:25 AM
McCormick County, South Carolina is named for Cyrus McCormick(1809-1884), the inventor of the McCormick reaper, an invention which revolutionized the agricultural economy in the South.  About the time Mr. McCormick was inventing the reaper (1850), gold was discovered where the current town of McCormick now stands.  In 1872, he bought the Dorn Gold Mine and later donated land for the town, which was named for him in 1882. It is thought, however, that he never visited the area.  The mine continued to operate until the 1930s.
The McCormick area had actually been part of Old 96 District, settled in the mid-1800's by Scotch-Irish, French Huguenots, … (11 comments)

mccormick: Bass fishing in Stevens Creek, McCormick, SC - 02/12/09 02:09 AM
Stevens Creek, SC

About the river: Stevens Creek, a tributary of the Savannah River, winds its way slowly through the counties of Edgefield and McCormick, SC. The landscape of the river changes vastly over its length from deep gorge like settings to rocky shoals and even lined by cypress trees in some areas. The floatable sections of the creek really begin below the confluence of Steven's and Turkey Creek, and end in a vast stump field as the waters combine with the Savannah River as it continues its course into North Augusta.  One of the rarest things about floating … (1 comments)

There's the often told story that a traveler from ‘up north' was looking for a new home to get away from the snow and ice of Michigan.  So he traveled south.  In every town, he would stop at the local hardware store and ask to purchase a snow shovel.  When he … (7 comments)
