denver: The Mile High Capital - 02/11/10 01:55 AM

The Colorado State Capital bears a strong resemblance to our nation’s capitol, including famous street names such as Pennsylvania and Lincoln Avenue. The building was built in the 1890’s and is composed of Colorado white granite. In 1908 the dome was plated in 24 karat gold.
The interior features magnificent brass and stained glass. The dome towers 180 feet above, and contains stained glass dedicated to the 16 initial founders of the city of Denver.

A round brass survey marker embedded in the west entrance stairway declares why Denver is known as the Mile High City.

denver: Interest Rate v. Closing Costs - 07/01/08 06:48 AM
One of the Get Home Denver Team's Mortgage Professionals wrote a great post today about the decision making process of paying upfront costs for a loan versus accepting a slightly higher interest rate, and lower out of pocket expenses.  Here is an excerpt:
First, just like anything else IF IT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS. No one has a commodity on rates- interest rates all come from the same places, and if the rate sounds really unbelievable, ask a few more questions. Is there a prepayment penalty? Are there extra fees? What is … (0 comments)

denver: Denver "Poster Child" for Mass Transit! - 06/20/08 04:10 AM
In a recent NBC news report, the Light Rail system in Denver, was referred to as the “Poster Child” for our Mass Transit system.

With the high cost of fuel, living near mass transit makes environmental and financial sense!  There are many great communities, and neighborhoods within walking distance to Denver’s light rail system.  The value of these properties will certainly go up as the cost to drive to work increases.  Click here to visit the Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) site.
If you currently utilize Light Rail, or other Mass Transit, we’d love to have you comment about your … (4 comments)

denver: Politicians Push Colorado Foreclosure Hotline - 04/22/08 04:49 AM
I wanted to pass along this great article about Colorado Foreclosures from the Rocky Mountain News.
Governor Bill Ritter and Senator Ken Salazar are urging Colorado Homeowners to use the free counseling hotline for those in the danger of Foreclosure.  The hotline connects homeowners with about a dozen nonprofit counseling agencies.  Since October of 2006, it is estimated the hotline has helped approx. 5600 families keep their homes.
Senator Salazar said those who call the hotline have found an 80% success rate in the re-negotiation of their mortgage contract.
To reach the Foreclosure Prevention Hotline, call 1-877-601-HOPE

denver: Colorado Skiing-It's Now or Never - 03/31/08 03:03 PM
Well if Never means next November, than the headline is accurate.  Spring skiing should be in full swing this week as mountain resorts have received up to a foot and a half of snow over the past 24 hours.
In Steamboat Springs, the ski resort broke a record for seasonal snowfall.  With 470 inches (and counting) of snow this season, they have easily eclipsed the previous seasonal record of 447.5 inches.  The average snowfall at the Steamboat Resort is 334 inches!  For those who are mathematically challenged, that is almost 40 feet of snow this year!  My back is aching just thinking about … (2 comments)

denver: Greenwood Village - Centennial - Mexican Restaurant Review - 03/27/08 05:56 AM

El Parral is my favorite Mexican Restaurant in town.  The people are friendly, the service is great, and the food is wonderful!
When you get there, be prepared to eat.  The servings are generous, but not overwhelming, and it comes out quick!  There have been times when we've ordered, and the food arrives within a couple minutes.  It's made to order, and fast!  These guys don‘t mess around when it comes to turning tables.
It has a fairly large menu, which I don't need.  Just give me the number 3!  A chile relleno, chicken burrito, and a chicken enchilada.  The burrito and relleno come smothered in some fine green chile!  … (1 comments)

denver: Mortgage Broker Crackdown! - 03/20/08 03:40 AM
Strong Headline!  The Rocky Mountain News published this article, and I needed to comment.
The Colorado State legislature passed a law that went into effect January 1st, 2008, requiring Mortgage Brokers to become licensed by the State.  While most states have required the licensure of Mortgage Brokers for some time, Colorado was a bit behind the curve.
Since the requirement went into effect (less than 90 days ago) there have been 73 people denied a license, or disciplined by the Colorado Division of Real Estate.  Offenses like Criminally Negligent Homicide, Lewd & Lascivious Acts in the presence of a Child, and Burglary are some of … (2 comments)

denver: I Can Fly! - 03/12/08 03:40 AM

In Lonetree, just south of Park Meadow Mall is a great place called Skyventure.  Skyventure is a Vertical Wind Tunnel, that generates wind speeds of over 160 mph, in a controlled environment.  The wind allows anyone to actually "FLY" (all while being within arms reach of a trained instructor!)
No experience is necessary, as they train you to soar on a column of air.  They cater to experienced skydivers, corporate team building events, children's birthday parties, and anyone who wants to experience the feeling of flight, without having to actually jump from a perfectly good airplane!
