By Frank Stanfield / Correspondent LEESBURG — City Commissioners voted 4-1 Monday to sell 1,938 acres, once planned for industrial development at County Road 470 and Florida’s Turnpike, to The Villages for houses and commercial use. The land is being sold to the Villages Land Co. for $11.9 million for an estimated 4,500 homes. City Manager Al Minner described the deal as a “galactic shift” from trying to sell the property for industrial use. “Villages style growth could exceed industrial growth by 95 percent, or an estimated $2.1 million annually,” he wrote in a memo to commissioners before the meeting. … (0 comments)
