marketing strategy: Personal Branding: The Story Grows - 02/25/09 05:04 AM
So maybe you think that I'm pounding away too much at the same topic this week - "Personal Branding."  Yes, this is just a guy having some fun and pursuing an interest that he let fall by the wayside when life got in the way.  But there's a fantastic lesson in all of this -
Find your niche, let everyone you know about it, stick to it, and beat the drum!
From posting his journey on a personal blog a couple weeks ago, to a pick-up on the USA Today blog, and now on MusicRadar.com - "Could you see 100 bands … (3 comments)

marketing strategy: Personal Branding: Wow - that was quick! - 02/24/09 02:53 AM
This weekend, I posted a quick article about how quickly and easily you can build a personal brand by choosing a niche and then telling the world in a simple blog, using a friend's quest to watch 100 bands in 100 days.
Still don't believe me?  Now he's been picked up on USA Today's blog by Whiney Matheson:
I hope he owns earplugs ...

marketing strategy: Personal Branding: 100 Bands in 100 Days - 02/22/09 05:56 AM
I know Nick from college.  He's a guy that moved to NYC in 2002 with no job and no prospects after working as an admin at an Minnesota-based advertising powerhouse.  Found an apartment in Brooklyn before it was cool to live in Brooklyn.  Everyone figured he'd last about 6-8 months.
Then worked himself into Viacom/MTV, and now writes copy for ESPN ads.  You know those "This is SportsCenter" ads - he's written some of those and several others.
His intention isn't so much to create a buzz about himself (he's not a self-serving guy - this I know), but finding something … (3 comments)

marketing strategy: Using Comments to Drive Blog Traffic - 12/23/08 12:53 AM
In a previous article, I wrote in detail about using an "organic web search strategy" to help with developing traffic and readers to your blog and website.  Another effective strategy is to use effective commenting on other websites to link to your site.
Want to know how this works, or need proof that this is effective? Read on!
Every morning, I read a few articles on Seeking Alpha, a financial market blog. I choose an article or two where the topic is particularly relevant to a blog posting of my own on my personal blog, or a blog posting on the … (10 comments)

marketing strategy: Internet Lead Generation: Principles & Tools - 12/18/08 03:07 AM
Here's the basic scoop of developing leads from your website and blog, with some screen shots down below to show you some excellent services that are free (or very inexpensive)...
1. Be found - This is where blogging and a regular updates to your site helps potential prospects and clients find you on the web.  There's constand chatter and a billion dollar industry around "search engine optimization" and "SEO."  At it's core, that just means - Can you be found?
You need not pay for "search engine optimization" if the content on your website matches with what local buyers/sellers are looking … (3 comments)

marketing strategy: Twitter & Personal Branding (from Mashable.com) - 12/15/08 02:21 AM
Spending time Twittering this morning, I came across a blog post from @mashable.  Mashable (self-proclaimed - "All That's New On the Web") takes a very broad-brush approach to reporting exactly that - all that's new on the web.
That said, some of the general articles they publish have strong implications and advice for those of us in the real estate business.  Check out this article - "Why brands ABSOLUTELY DO Belong on Twitter."  The article focuses on larger brands like Starbucks and Coca-Cola, but there are certainly some applications for individual agents and brokers when it comes to the value of … (4 comments)

Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization (SEMPO).  Their mission: SEMPO is a global non-profit organization serving the search engine marketing industry and marketing professionals engaged in it. marketing strategy: Web Analytics, Google Analytics, Bay Area Workshop - 11/19/08 11:52 PM
Just some quick hits for anyone looking to take a more measured approach to their internet marketing strategy, which you should be if you're doing any significant marketing via the web with a website, regularly updated blog, or email marketing campaigns.
Keep in mind that Internet marketing isn't for anyone.  There are lots of agents out there that live very comfortably via referrals, and their website is just a marketing brochure or a place for their current clients to search homes for sale.  They can do just fine.
But, if you are taking an active approach to Internet marketing as a … (2 comments)

marketing strategy: More on Twitter for Business (...& Yammer) - 11/13/08 11:26 AM
In what's seeming to turn out as a series of posts about Twitter, here are few more Twitter tips, links, and tricks.
Today's O'Reilly's webcast: Twitter for Business (by Sarah Milstein)
One good idea: Twitter once a day. It's 140 characters.  You can find something interesting to post in there, even if it's a link to someone else's blog post or website that might be interesting to the group.
One idea I disagree with:  They suggested that you should "follow" anyone that follows you. I disagree.  Just like people get to choose whether or not to listen to my tweets, I … (0 comments)

marketing strategy: Using Twitter For Your Real Estate Practice - 11/10/08 04:56 PM
During the recent REBarCamp in Houston, the attendees participated in a group-led workshop about social media.  Lots of time was spent discussing Twitter and ideas on how best to use this simple web application.  I thought I'd take moment to share some of the conversation.  (I can't recall which people individually provided some of the ideas here, so I'll assign credit to everyone that attended.... It wouldn't be fair for me to pass off these ideas as my own...)
The most important thing to remember about Twitter is that there's no right or wrong way to use it.  It doesn't come … (1 comments)
