motherhood: Not All Poverty Is Created Equal - 02/14/07 09:36 PM
I am part of an amazing community of moms on a website called CafeMom. I wrote a post there informing some of my fellow Mutha's about a company called BeadForLife. I wrote about how I loved their products and gave some basic information about the beautiful necklaces that were made by Ugandan women. To me, it was a typical Rocky trying to make a difference post. Some moms thanked me for the information. Some posed the question, So while I think it's a noble effort to help the poor, why look so far away from home?
I labored over this question … (31 comments)

motherhood: Mommy, I'm Bored! - 02/12/07 05:50 PM
I know, I know. It's too cold outside to play and those Chillins are bored out of their minds. So, here is the Tip of the week....Indoor play for those of you who live in freezing hell or just don't want to play outside today!!!

That's right! Ballloon Volleyball! You can turn your living room or basement into a volleyball court. Either tie a string to make the "net" from two chairs or play on either side of a couch! You can create your own score board, make team names, and even have uniforms (same color shirts) to make … (10 comments)

motherhood: Our Birthday Ritual - 02/07/07 06:54 PM
When you have six kids, it can be VERY hard to make each kid feel special. There are just so many of them. So we make birthdays VERY, VERY SPECIAL.
After they fall asleep, we decorate their room with balloons, streamers, flags, and a large Happy Birthday sign. It's fun for The Hubby and I to take the time to make it special for each of them. We have it down to a science now. We can blow up 10 balloons and set all the decorations up in less than 10 minutes. The goal is to make the room as … (7 comments)

motherhood: Oprah Helped Me Potty Train My Daughter! - 02/07/07 02:33 AM
Two weeks ago, I was going insane.  Potty training is a horrible, horrible thing. To me, it's got to be like Basic Training. You can prepare as much as you want, but you will never understand the true pain one goes through until you have been in the trenches. The book, Army Basic Training: Be Smart, Be Ready describes an insider's view of Army Basic Training. The Table of Contents are as follows:
Get Physically FitGet Mentally FitThe Phases Of Basic TrainingDrill Sergent Advice I wish I had a handbook like this for Potty Training. Maybe I should of just followed … (8 comments)

motherhood: Got Razor? - 01/27/07 02:27 AM
I HATE Potty Training. I'm not sure if there is anything worse when it comes to raising a toddler.
I have done it four times already, and it doesn't get any easier. It has actually gotten harder. I wonder if it is harder because I am older, more tired, less patient, and distracted by other little people running around the house. Maybe. But I truly believe it is because I cannot stand the sound of my daughters voice when she whines.

Yeah, there's more to this one right here!

motherhood: OOOHHH The Laundry! - 01/18/07 07:01 PM
Laundry can be overwhelming to say the least and monotonous at best.
My old routine was a load a day. It was quick and easy. Our old washer/dryer set was nine years old.  I like the word was because we just got the new fan-dangled Kenmore, throw 27 towels and the kitchen sink and still have room for that darn shirt on the floor set. We've been planning this purchase for over a year now. I'm so glad we planned it because the timing could not of been better. With the freezing temperatures hitting Southern California, and the need for SWEATSHIRTS … (16 comments)

motherhood: Life List 2007 - 01/10/07 06:19 AM
When I get a free moment, I try to watch Ellen.
There are a lot of reasons, but mainly because she makes me laugh out loud and I love to watch her dance. I love the music she chooses, so sometimes I will get up and move too.
She started a Life List Movement and I wanted to get in on the action. I have been thinking about most of these things for months now. I just decided to put it into writing. The best part is I have already started on my way to accomplish some of these!
 Rocky's Life List … (15 comments)

motherhood: Who Left This On The Counter? - 01/06/07 01:56 AM
If you have more than one kid, the dishes can get ridiculous. You can imagine what it's like with six. Just the drinking glasses can be horrific. They did for me. My four boys would use 3 to 4 cups each on any given Saturday. Forget about the “I didn’t leave that cup outside” arguments. It was crazy. The amount of yellow cups sitting on counters, tables, and the front yard sidewalk had tipped me over the edge.
What was I gonna do? Here's a clue...

motherhood: He's Putting Me In My Place - 12/19/06 03:58 PM
I believe in God. I believe He has a great sense of humor too. I also believe He was laughing at me this entire week. In my VERY sick brain, this is what I believe He was trying to tell me.You are a good Mom, Rocky. But not that good! I thought you needed to be put in your place this week. You don't have all the control. So I gave it to the children this week, to remind you that you are just a mere mortal!!!! You passed the test. Don't get too cocky and sure of yourself in the … (8 comments)

motherhood: Santa, Help Us Save The North Pole - 12/07/06 04:44 PM
Dear Santa,
As you probably already know, I was watching Oprah yesterday and Al Gore was on talking about Global Warming. At the dinner table last night, I explained to my kids what Global Warming is and told them that we need to do even more to help our Earth. I told them that the Carbon Dioxide Level in the air is just too much for the Earth to handle. I shared that we needed to do our part and lessen it as much as we can in our house.
Even though they are little things, we know that a … (17 comments)
