Fall In Sedona Is Here!
First Day Below 32º At the Cottages in Coffeepot
Today was the first day it dipped below freezing at our home.  It didn't last long, but it got down to 28.8º at 6:08 am.  It lasted from 2 am to 7:30 am so that is enough time to start the change in the leaves.
Our Cherished Spider Plant
My husband was scurrying around shutting off the sprinklers and bringing our cherished spider plant inside for the winter.  It is 43 years old.  We had it before my first son was born, and it has made it through every move since 1976!

Fall Change of Color
Snowbowl Arizona
On Wednesday I created a picture blog with some detail about Snowbowl and Flagstaff.  These two posts complement each other.  Find yesterday's blog here.
If you live in the area, now is the time to get to the high country and see the change of seasons.  Within the next 2 weeks, the color should hit Oak Creek Canyon before making its way to Sedona by the end of the month or just a little later.

Fall Color - Sedona Style
When others are setting in to raking the leaves that have already fallen,  Sedona and the Verde Valley are just reaching peak color.  I am sure by next week, most of it will be over.  Many of the leaves on the huge oak trees are turning brown without color. Partly because our fall weather doesn't understand what season it is!
Hopefully there will be some color left to enjoy for Thanksgiving.  The Japanese Maple in our yard is still very full and I … (9 comments)

Fall Color Has Hit Flagstaff
Northern Arizona
I had to go up to Flagstaff on Wednesday. I was not quite sure how to dress because the weather was in the high 30ºs.  Well I took a light jacket.  It hit a warm 43º!  I am just not used to that kind of temperature.
Flagstaff sits at 7000 feet and is about 1 hour north of Sedona. The city actually got some snow earlier in the week but it was not cold enough to stick. I have to make another drive up to Flagstaff on Veteran's Day. I just hope there is a warm spell for … (25 comments)

September 2018 Sedona Weather SummarySeptember 2018 Sedona Weather Stats Update - Our weather transition to Fall starts in mid-August. So by September the low temps are in the mid- 50ºs. You can feel the crisp air and smell the pine. It is wonderful! We did have 8 more days over last year above 90º which brought the mean temp up by 3º. But by evening, the windows were open allowing the AC to be turned off. There were a couple of days we did not even turn the AC on. One day had a high of 67º! … (8 comments)

Autumn In Sedona Is Beautiful
....and It Is Finally Here
I love all the seasons in Sedona, but fall is special to me.  This season is much shorter than spring but the number of people who visit Sedona in the fall is comparible.
Tourist Season

Our tourist season in fall starts around the last week of September and goes through Thanksgiving.  Of course, the Christmas season is supported by the "Valley of the Sun". Last year was a good example of a "Hallmark" experience! … (15 comments)

The Sedona Weather - Year In Review...300 Days of Sunshine!
Sedona Weather - Tracking "sunshine" as a statistic, was not easy. One has to be cognizant of the weather each and every day. To be accurate, this statistic needs to be recorded on a daily basis. My husband decided to take on this project for one year to see how accurate the claim was. Many areas that boast high tourism and lots of sunshine claim this statistic. But there was an inner curiosity to either prove or disprove the claim in Sedona. So … (14 comments)

(Almost) Speechless Sunday
Seasonal Sedona Weather Shift
Next Saturday our late fall weather is arriving. Break out the sweaters!   Thursday was our warmest Thanksgiving on record at 79.7º. Normally TD is around 60º - It has been in high 50ºs last 3 years.   Over a week ago, we got just enough cool temps in 30ºs in am to create the sugar reaction in the leaves to produce the usual fall color.   Outside decorations are going up today to avoid the cooler weather!   Have a great finish to your Thanksgiving weekend.   Interested in living the Sedona Lifestyle? Arizona Aspens Changing ColorSnowbowl Arizona  Aspens
The area that these pictures were taken is the road that leads to the Snowbowl lifts.  The Snowbowl parking lot is about 9000 feet.  Most of the pictures you will see were taken between 8000 and 9000 feet during the first week of October. There were Aspens in different stages of color change all up and down the road. If there was a severe cold snap, most of the trees might be in the same stage of color.  This is not the case this season.  So depending … (25 comments)

This video recaps some of the color.  It has only been the last few days that you could see the color starting to develop.

Fall Color Sedona Cottage Style!
One of my favorite times of year in Northern Arizona.  Many visitors come from all over to see the Fall color in Oak Creek Canyon and contrast that with the majesty of the red rocks. Autumn, along with Spring are our busiest seasons of year.  Actually, our Spring season starts in mid January and continues to the 4th of July!
I have a beautiful Japanese Maple  in my courtyard that has every color of the rainbow in it right now. Probably because it may get down to freezing on some days but the inside of the tree remains … (6 comments)

fall color: What You Should Know About Sedona Fall Color and Clean-up - 11/24/14 03:04 AM

Typically homes in Sedona don't experience the change of colors and falling leaves until mid November. Depending on the temperature drop, it could be slightly earlier or later. Go to Rick's World Sedona for more detailed weather information. Click on the "Sedona Weather" tab. Also, click on button "See Additional Fall Pics Here" on main page below cornucopia.
As evidenced by fall pictures on Rick's World leaves turn beautiful shades of red, vermillion, orange and yellow. We enjoy their beauty. We take photographs. We collect them. Our children play in them. For a homeowner, however, leaves pose the possibility of damage to their landscaping, … (2 comments)

fall color: Ask Any Snowbird - The Early Bird Gets The Knat! - 10/25/14 04:46 AM

For most potential home buyers around the country, the season to buy a home is behind them.  Their kids are settling into school and they are preparing for the holiday season.  They are thinking of buying presents, family gatherings, holiday party plans.... but not thinking about buying a home.  Most of us in the business realize that for buyers, this is a great time to buy a home.  The demand is not as great so it puts the buyer in a great position to make a good deal. BUT this is story for another blogpost!.......
