Daffodils "O'Plenty" In The Cottages At Coffeepot
Narcissus (Daffodil) is the birth flower of those who are born in March.
The image above is the monument light at the head of my driveway. A few years ago, I noticed sprouts coming up in late February or early March.
I talked with our landscaper for the Cottages and asked him about them.  Come to find out, he had been planting these bulbs sporadically all over the community.  What a wonderful surprise!

Everywhere you walk or drive in our little community of 34 homes, you will see daffodils this time of year.  Even though it is … (36 comments)

spring: Almost Speechless Sunday - Mother's Day Is Full of Color in Sedona... - 05/09/21 01:34 PM

Happy Mother's Day!
from
The Red Rocks of Sedona
If I am not working on a Sedona real estate deal, I like to spend my free time out in the garden.  When I go to the nursery, I find flowers and plants that bloom at different times of the year so that you can smell the fragrance and enjoy the color for as many months as possible. The lilacs are fading fast but the Jasmine plants are starting to bloom!
Here is a variety of flowers and plants from my garden on Mother's Day.
Today it is right around 78º with fluffy clouds and a gentle … (37 comments)

Why Is Sedona Weather Almost Perfect?April has been nothing like March. We had a little of every temperature range as well as 7.5 inches of snow. One thing we appreciate is there is nothing hum-drum about the weather.  Maybe it was the snow but March didn't feel as warm as normal. But, as April came in, there were 11 days of 80º weather in the first 12 days!

spring: Almost Wordless Wednesday: Yellow Iris With Some Translucent Leaves - 05/20/20 09:08 AM
Yellow Iris
Another Sedona Spring Delight
I wanted to capture these before they withered. After viewing the shot, I noticed that the light of the sun added a translucent effect to many of the leaves.  I also noticed that they are growing taller and spreading out over a larger area every year.  I looked it up and found that the Yellow Iris spreads both by seed and by stout underground stems called rhizomes from which its roots can grow to a foot in length.

There were huge flakes lasting 5 minutes. The temp was 34º a little after dawn right here in Soldiers Pass West Sedona. This is the coolest May we have seen since 2015. No other year since 2010 has had a mean temp this low.

Crazy Stats for May 2019

Happy Mother's Day!

When I lived in Southern California I couldn't get lilacs to grow.  You need a good freeze for the plant to bloom. When you cut them back, it may take another 2 to 3 years for them to bloom.  So it is a real treat to see the gift these lilacs have provided. The aroma is just wonderful. Eventually, we will be able to make a video with that feature built in. Ha Ha!

Sedona Weather for March 2019
The month of March mirrored the saying “March came in like a lion and went out like a lamb”. The month was not quite as warm as 2018 but it was roughly a very similar temperature pattern. However, the leaves on our Japanese Maple tree are just coming in now. Last year the leaves started coming in the third week March.
At the beginning of the month, it felt … (35 comments)

spring: Happy Sedona Spring 2019! - 03/20/19 06:40 PM
Happy Sedona Spring!
It's Here!
Finally, spring has sprung!  At least in a big part of the country.  Last year, 26 days were above 60º.  Eleven days were above 70º and one day made it to 81º.  This was actually much cooler than March of 2017.  There were 17 days above 70º in 2017.  But Mother Nature does not wait around.
If Mother Nature has not given you the opportunity to thaw out yet, well, I hope it comes soon for you. It is nice to see all the flowers starting to bloom and the fruitless plums with their blossoms all along the SR89A which is Sedona's main … (38 comments)

spring: I Am Grateful For The Seasons of Sedona Arizona - 11/02/18 12:18 PM
Post 2: Ten Gratitude Posts - courtesy of Debbie Reynolds
The Seasons of Sedona
Anyone who follows me, knows that I love our weather. In Sedona, we get real change in the seasons.  As much as I love seasonal changes, I am still a lightweight when it comes to cold weather.  This is probably why I enjoy this time of year so much. Our seasons are mild and our humidity is low. It is humid air that makes warm air feel stiffling and it is moisture in the cold air that brings a chill to the bones.  We get neither of those conditions which makes me extremely grateful. … (18 comments)

Eating on Oak Creek - Hmm...Not Today
Rain kept us off of Oak Creek today, but the view was still beautiful. We normally come here for a Father's Day Bruch but my son and his wife have to work so we will be "baby sitting"!
My husband has said that there is no better gift then being with his little "Boo Boo". AKA Tristan!
The "Silent Saturday" part of this post is standing at the edge by the creek in the rain and just watching the water flow by.... This is one more reason I live in Sedona Arizona!

In Northern Arizona and Sedona, this time of year there is no better weather. Mid-70ºs all week long, very little rain, allowing for abundant outdoor activities ....especially hiking.
Another activity many people enjoy is having a bite to eat al fresco. Most of our restaurants have outdoor patios to enjoy the abundant sunshine we are blessed to have.

The Sedona Weather - Year In Review...300 Days of Sunshine!
Sedona Weather - Tracking "sunshine" as a statistic, was not easy. One has to be cognizant of the weather each and every day. To be accurate, this statistic needs to be recorded on a daily basis. My husband decided to take on this project for one year to see how accurate the claim was. Many areas that boast high tourism and lots of sunshine claim this statistic. But there was an inner curiosity to either prove or disprove the claim in Sedona. So … (14 comments)

spring: Why Do They Call It A Butterfly Bush? - 05/20/17 08:31 PM
Our Sedona Weather Affords Us A Variety Of Plants & FlowersOne of My Favorites Is The Butterfly BushIt is all part of the Sedona Life Style
The flowers come in many colors from white to dark purple.  According to the Farmer's Almanac, butterflies prefer the lavender or mauve color.  The plant is robust to zone 5. It will remain evergreen from zone 8 south.  Sedona is in zone 8b.  As you get into the canyon the weather gets colder and you will probably have to cover the plant in the winter.
The Butterfly Bush provides nectar to butterflies as well as other insects … (21 comments)

Lilacs!
The Farmers Almanac says that the ideal shrub has ten canes and produces the flowers at eye level.  Well I think these meet that criteria!
We have had good rain and a decent amount of snow and I have to say that this is the most that have ever bloomed at the same time.  The bees are out and the fragrance is wonderful.  Normally, we don't see these until mid-May but they started blooming at the end of March.
I have to admit, I will be sorry to see them go. But right now I can enjoy this once a year delight! … (28 comments)

Meditation on the Equinox

It is always fun to visit with our friends who own a ranch in cornville.  This ranch has many areas you can wonder off to and be on your own.  You can relax and listen to and watch the wind chimes or you can get lost in your thoughts or meditation.  Anywhere you go on the ranch invites something different and energizing to see or do.
The Spring Equinox is a great time to reflect on the winter months and renew your efforts for the rest of the year.  Happy Spring!
