arizona: Wells Fargo Stole my Home From Me; And Now They're Doing It Again - 08/27/12 03:17 AM
I have told this story before, but I received an email this morning from somebody in an identical situation.
And somehow, even though Wells Fargo did the very same thing to me, it made me a lot angrier once I heard that they are doing it to somebody else.
Four years ago, on August 23rd, 2008-- my wife of seven years and best friend of fourteen years-- died of breast cancer. Karen was thirty-three years old.
Now, losing a spouse is bad enough. There is a lot you have to deal with. And, don't ask me why- because this was really, … (7 comments)

arizona: Sometimes the Best SEO is "No SEO": 6 Tips You Can Use Right Now - 08/07/12 08:09 AM

I've written before about the importance of Google+ and tying your Google profile with ActiveRain, your own website, and really-- anywhere that you blog.
I recently realized something about optimizing websites for Google and the affects were so amazing, that I hesistate to even share... But I will.
It turns out, I'm not as good with SEO as I thought.
Oh don't get me wrong- I'm good. :-)
But a lot of what I've done has to do with the way I've built trust with Google over time.
If you Hire an SEO person, Make Sure He or She has … (40 comments)

arizona: Arizona SB 1070 - "Show Me Your Papers" Law, Supreme Court Ruling - 06/25/12 08:17 AM
About 7 hours ago, the United States Supreme Court made a ruling on Arizona SB 1070, sometimes referred to as the "Show Me Your Papers" law.
The decision, essentially, was split-- with some justices supporting and dissenting on various portions of the bill.
I can't imagine that anyone would actually want to read the entire decision, but if you do, you can read it here. (If you want to download it, right click the link and "save as" to your computer's hard drive, or it will just open in PDF form, in a new window.)
As an Arizona resident myself, I … (13 comments)

arizona: Sometimes Blogging Can Hurt Your SEO - 03/06/11 12:30 PM
That's a dumb thing to say, right?
I mean, blogging should never hurt your SEO-- not directly-- but very possibly indirectly.
But there is an easy fix and it definitely doesn't involve leaving the rain. I would never recommend that.
You really want to read this post if you don't want to help your competition, but you still want to be an active, contributing member of ActiveRain.
I just spent the last 12 hours working on my AR blog. I went through about 250 posts, I think, and made very tiny changes to all of them.
One thing I did was … (10 comments)

arizona: Attention Boaters-- Go Directly To Jail - 09/25/09 10:47 AM
This is one of those stories that'll make you laugh, but it's really not that funny.  But I still laughed.
I've got a friend who's a very straight-laced guy.  He was in the Marines and grew up with only sisters and he's a very honorable, all around good dude.  Everybody likes him.
Anyway, he was driving the other day.  I was with him and we were just running errands.  It was about 1:00PM when the police pulled us over-- right in the middle of the day. Nobody was drunk, so I know he wasn't getting pulled over for DUI.
Turns out … (15 comments)

arizona: Service Magic.com or ServiceMagic.com and The Lies - 08/18/09 05:30 AM
This is just plain ridiculous.
Has everyone seen the commercial for a new website called ServiceMagic.com?  In Arizona, it pretty much runs constantly, so I am assuming it does so everywhere.  I could be wrong though.
Anyway, the commercial is an insult to anybody's intelligence right from the get-go.
They boast that they will help you find the best contractors in your area, and it implies that there is a rating system or something.  You know, before you use so-and-so, you'd better check them out with ServiceMagic first.
And it's all free!  They point that out over and over.  As if we don't know … (13 comments)

arizona: AZ Drunk Driving Fines and Fees: Scottsdale DUI - 05/09/09 06:58 AM
There are a million stories like this one, but why not add one more? It couldn't hurt.
I know this couple.  It's actually hard to describe them, because they are so dynamic...but I will try. I'll call them John and Jane.
First off, they both look like movie stars-- perfect teeth, skin, everything. At the same time, they are the most charming and likeable young couple you could ever meet. "Jane" comes from money, but she is very humble and volunteers in soup kitchens and every other thing she can. They are the couple that everyone wants to be.
They met … (12 comments)

arizona: Washington Mutual: Predatory Bank, WAMU Sucks - 06/02/08 09:28 AM
This is an opinion piece, take as you wish, but I think Washington Mutual is predatory on what economists would call a micro level.  (They may be predatory in other ways as well, but I experienced it on a very "micro" level.)
While I'm at it, I also think they have lousy customer service and could care less about improving. (We'll see how they respond to this post.)  Over the years, while working as an Arizona mortgage broker, I have had many clients tell me that they've had negative experiences with WaMu, both on the mortgage side and with smaller issues, … (30 comments)

arizona: Create Your Own Font! Win Friends, Impress Clients! - 10/06/07 05:28 PM
I just read a post by Jeff Turner a few minutes ago. While Jeff's writing is always good, the thing that really caught my eye was a graphic he created. (Digital photography and art is just one of Jeff's many talents.)
Anyway, Jeff had a graphic that had some printing on it and it really caught my eye, because it wasn't your standard "Times New Roman" or "Arial" font. Isn't everyone sick of reading the same old fonts day after day? (Like this blog-- "Arial"-- yuck.)
Jeff's font just looked like really cool handwriting. The picture of "Tom's Handwriting" above, is … (54 comments)

arizona: I was almost arrested as a Criminal Today - 03/19/07 05:26 AM
This is actually pretty funny, because I have this bizarre personal phobia about going to prison.
I am not a criminal, I assure my good readers, but someone I know- who used to be a mortgage broker- actually went to prison a couple of years ago because she wasn't diligent and some of her loan officers commited fraud.
She didn't actually do anything...the loan officers she employed did some dishonest stuff.
So, because I am a little neurotic, it freaked me out.  Now I have this irrational fear that one of my employees will make a legitimate mistake here or there and the … (26 comments)
