blogging seo for real estate pros: People Will Steal Your Valuable Content- This Will Slow Them Down - 03/24/11 08:19 AM
Occasionally, I find that my competition steals images and text snippets from my Arizona Mortgage pages at AZWM.com.
I am lucky that it only happens occasionally, because the fact is: My site ranks highly in Arizona mortgage searches, so my competition pretty much imitates everything I do.
I try to prevent this from happening in two ways:
1. I subscribe to Copyscape.com for $4.95 per month and it crawls the web looking for duplicate content. It uses a sophisticated algorithm to find copies of your content on the web.
It doesn't have to be an exact duplicate. If somebody rewrites your … (6 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Get Better Google Rankings -- Avoid Superlatives - 07/23/08 06:45 AM
I know I haven't written about SEO in a while, so I wanted to give this important tip to my readers. Trust me, this works!
If you have ever signed up for pay-per-click ads, like with Yahoo! or Google, you will find that they do not allow superlatives when you describe your site and set up your ad. For those of you that need a refresher, a Superlative \Su`per*la"tive\ is:
1. Lifted up to the highest degree; most eminent; surpassing all other; supreme; as, superlative wisdom or prudence.
2. (Gram.) Expressing the highest or lowest degree of the quality denoted by … (65 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Super-Important Search Engine Tip - 07/28/07 12:23 PM
Here are two very important tips to help your site do better in Google, MSN and Yahoo.  It's easy and it's common sense and anyone can do it just as soon as you finish reading here.  But of course, as usual, before I provide the tip, I've got to give you my reasoning.  My readers know I'm...uh...kind of long-winded.
First tip:  For those of you that use link farms- stop.  They very well may be hurting you.
In case you aren't aware, link farms are often called "directories."  They contain no useful information whatsoever.  Google crawls these sites and doesn't find what Google loves- which … (121 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Why Blog for Points? I'll Tell You Why! - 06/06/07 06:27 AM
There is much talk of points and "why we blog" here on ActiveRain.  Many people say that they only blog for the benefit of the consumer, or to make friends on ActiveRain.  They don't care about being featured or getting subscribers.
Those are very fine reasons to blog.  I have read many instances of people getting referrals from other ActiveRainers and that is fantastic.  I have also made some great friends here and I am appreciative of that.
However, there is another very good reason to blog on ActiveRain-- getting business, earning clients, making money.  For those of you that think "points don't matter"; I … (161 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Your Name is Worthless For SEO. Don't Confuse Google! - 06/01/07 02:17 AM
I don't want to insult anybody's intelligence here, but for those that are brand new to all of this technical web stuff, I just want to make sure that you know what a "page title" is.
Across the very top of your web browser- the very, very top- you will see the title of your page.  In this case, if you look up top, you will see this page's title, which is "Real Estate Blog - Your Name is Worthless For SEO. Don't confuse Google!"
So that's a page title.  (I know, I know, but there is a wide range of experience here … (72 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Number One In Google- Absolutely Guaranteed, No Joke - 05/24/07 12:41 PM
I recently wrote a little bit about anchor text, but this subject needs to be revisited, because some of my readers followed my advice and I realize that they didn't quite understand...  Which, of course, is the fault of the teacher and not the students.  This is good SEO technique, so I will explain more thoroughly this time.
First of all, let me quickly explain what anchor text is, for those of you that are reading about this for the first time.  When you link to somebody or some page or your own page, the text that you use to link … (111 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: What is WYSIWYG? HTML Tips for Blogs - 05/17/07 09:24 AM
Using HTML in Your ActiveRain Blog Posts Nobody wants a boring looking blog...do they?
Here are a couple of tips to give your blog some power, using the new tabs at the top of your ActiveRain blog editing window.  My apologies, in advance, if this has been written about before, but I think this post is going to be a little different from any others that were written about HTML.  I am going to write about using HTML specifically with these new tabs that now appear on our ActiveRain editing page.
This involves typing a tiny bit of "code", but trust … (48 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Some Basic HTML Tips - 05/15/07 12:32 PM
I just noticed, today, that ActiveRain now has two tabs at the top of our blog editing window.
One tab is "WYSIWYG" and that's an anagram for "What you see is what you get."  That is the way that most of us write our blog posts.  Actually, it's probably how everyone writes their blog posts.  Just start typing and uploading pictures and work inside the what-you-see-is-what-you-get window.
The HTML mode is the ugly, confusing looking code that is "behind the scenes" when you write a post.
There used to be a time when everybody that had a website knew HTML.  We would actually … (37 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Using Image Tags Effectively for SEO - 05/14/07 04:39 AM
This was actually a response to my new friend Missy Caulk.  She had posted a question to me regarding "alternative" image tags.  Basically, she wanted to know what an alternative image tag was and how it could be used to help with search engine rankings.
When I realized that my response was actually long enough to make a good blog post, I figured I might as well make this public.
Missy Caulk-- when I said that words appear over an image when we hold our mouse over them...  Go ahead and hold your mouse over your logo on your web page and you will see a whole bunch of words … (16 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Trim Your Blog Subscriptions and Never Miss A Post Again! (part 1) - 05/11/07 10:49 AM
I wrote a post last week in which I offered to help anyone to get their "main site" - you know, the one that you put on your business cards - to perform better in Google.  This was a free service from an experienced and proven search engine expert (me) and should have had tons of participants, just from my many subscribers alone.
I was perplexed...  Who in the heck would not want to perform better in Google?  After all, with so many of our potential clients using the Internet to locate a Realtor, we should do everything we can and take every advantage over … (20 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Commenting on Blogs Can Help You! - 05/03/07 09:42 AM
You know, I just found out that I am the fourth most subscribed blog on the ActiveRain network.
Also, I have been the number one most subscribed to "blog of the week" for a couple of weeks now I think.
I am very grateful for this support.  I am especially flattered, because I haven't been posting very long.  I think this post is number 55 or so...  You guys are great!
However, I am confused.  Although hundreds of people read my blog posts, its always the same 25 people or so that make all of the comments.
Now, I must have more than 25 subscribers to be … (47 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Ideas To Blog About - 05/03/07 09:26 AM
I have received several emails from people asking me how I always come up with good topics to blog about.  I am never quite sure how to answer this question, because I don't think I have "different" ideas.  I think I always blog about the the two same things:  Marketing / Website Promotion (SEO) or mortgages.  That's it though.  Those are the only two things are really know about.
I know that there have been posts that have offered suggestions for blogging topics, but I thought I could add a couple more.
1.  Blog about your worst client ever.  What did he or she do to you that made … (11 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Search Engine Experts: Buyer Beware! - 04/23/07 09:32 AM
Today, we are going to talk about search engine optimization and, more importantly, the many con-artists that have made this concept as slimy as...well, probably as slimy as the mortgage business can be.  Heh-heh.
If you are a Realtor, chances are you have been contacted by somebody offering to "get your site" into the Google top ten.  Oftentimes they will even offer a money-back guarantee.  More times than not, I have found these companies to be sorely lacking in any real SEO knowledge.  A real search engine optimizer will be able to prove results in a competitive market.  Get the proof.  Have … (26 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: The Importance of Headers (in your AR profile) - 04/18/07 10:52 AM
Okay, I've written about AR profile "headers" once before and I can see that I really should do it again.  I keep visiting other people's profiles and I just can't understand why this oh-so-very important Search Engine Optimization tip is missed by so many.  It is crucial that you do this if you want your AR profile to rank well in Google quickly; trust me- I did it with my own profile and saw fast results.
First, as always, I like to give you the reasoning and logic behind my SEO tips.  This little bit of advice has roots as old as the internet itself and … (124 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: This Is A Lousy Title For My Post - 04/06/07 08:21 PM
Have you ever noticed that, when you conduct a search in Google, all of your keywords are highlighted in the search results?  I'm sure you've already noticed this, but just in case, check out this search for Things To Do In Arizona.
I searched for "Things to do in Arizona."  Now Google looks for that phrase in whole (best) or in part within it's massive index.  Check out one of the top results for the aforementioned search phrase:
Take a look at the URL, or the "address" as some people call it, on the above results.  The last part of the URL actually contains … (71 comments)

blogging seo for real estate pros: Vanessa Williams. Realtor - 03/22/07 08:28 PM

The Vanessa Williams, Realtor Post.
(This post has been edited and is not the "original post."  First, this post was to announce an SEO contest to nail the phrase "Vanessa Williams, Realtor."  Now however, this post is my entry to the aforementioned contest."
Okay.  Those of us- "in the know"- realize that ActiveRain has a lot of search engine "cred", as I like to call it, and that a properly-optimized ActiveRain page can help any Realtor, even Vanessa Williams.  The Realtor that works on his or her blog regularly can find search engine success, practically guaranteed.
Anyway, I heard- and I honestly do not remember where- that "Vanessa Williams" is the number one searched for phrase … (36 comments)
