The California Association of Realtors® reported real estate sales and prices in the San Francisco Bay Peninsula area were higher in December than the previous months of 2012.
“A rush to complete sales of higher-priced homes by the end of the year to avoid an expected increase in capital gains due to the “fiscal cliff” pushed up sales of homes priced $500,000 and above by nearly 42 percent from December 2011,” said C.A.R. President Don Faught.

Housingwire.com reported today, “A yearlong Department of Justice and FBI initiative to protect distressed borrowers from foreclosure rescue scams resulted in charges against 530 accused con artists and the uncovering of $1 billion in losses.”
The investigation uncovered 73,000 victims of foreclosure and mortgage-“rescue” fraud. Many of the victims handed over money to the con artists thinking they were modifying their mortgages, while others were lead to believe investors would acquire their properties. They lost the titles to their homes to these scammers.
