Latest employment numbers over the last year show that from October of 2010 to October of 2011 the great state of Texas added over 17,500 construction jobs. The Austin area housing market saw the number of foreclosures rise slightly for the month of August when compared to August of 2010, according to CoreLogic Inc. The number of foreclosures in Austin with mortgage loans that were outstanding was 1.1 percent, which was a slight increase of 0.06 percent. In August of 2010 the rate was 1.05 percent. A check for $725,000 was presented to the Austin Community Foundation on Oct. 20 by University of Texas President Bill Powers. The money earned will be used to help area residents impacted by the September wildfires. It was estimated that there was $250 million in damage and losses as a result of the wildfires.
