1. You hear someone say they refuse to 'cross the ditch' and you know what that means. (Inside joke for Ponte Vedra residents East of Intracoastal.) 2. You hear words like 'boots on ground' and 'E-6', 'E-9' or 'P-3' and you understand what the heck they're talking about. 3. You spend half the year obsessed with football - Jaguars, Gators, Bull Dogs, FSU, take your pick - and the other half feeling like you lost your best friend. 4. You never wear a coat, even if you're in 30 degree weather in Atlanta because, (10 comments)

jacksonville fl: Cirque de Soleil 'Saltimbanco' in Jacksonville Florida
- 05/20/09 05:15 AM
Cirque de Soleil is performing its classic 'Saltimbanco' at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena through the weekend. 'Saltimbanco' debuted in 1992 under the big top and has been re-choreographed for indoors. If you haven't seen Cirque de Soleil, 'Saltimbanco' is the essence of Cirque de Soleil. One of the things that separates Cirque de Soleil from other circuses is the marriage of music and costume to tell a story and 'Saltimbanco' is a story about a place that is fun and safe, as opposed to big cities which were seen as big and scary in the 1990s when it was written.

jacksonville fl: Club Chaos Eye Candy: Landmarks - Downtown Jacksonville Florida
- 05/03/09 02:42 PM
Jacksonville Florida was once a sleepy town many people called a "south Georgia town." It just didn't feel like the rest of Florida in the sense of places like Miami and Orlando. In 1996, Jacksonville won the right to a professional football team and the rest is history. They say when a city hits 1,000,000 people and gets a professional sports team things change. They're right, and for Jacksonville the Jaguars have been really great. Go Jaguars! Downtown still has buildings from a bygone era alongside skyscrapers. The downtown living revival was slowed by the real estate downturn but is poised (10 comments)

jacksonville fl: Historic San Marco Square near downtown Jacksonville FL
- 03/11/09 04:16 PM
San Marco Square is a trendy, artsy community only 25 minutes from Fleming Island and it is an area you don't want to miss. Developed in the 1920s by Telfair Stockton after the Piazza di San Marco in Venice, Italy, it is as charming today as when it was new. The San Marco Preservation Society has helped keep the area vibrant and restored since its inception in 1978. Just minutes from I-95 and downtown, the 'Square' is actually a 'Y' bordered by San Jose Blvd. and Hendricks Avenue with Atlantic Blvd. to the north.

jacksonville fl: Please Take Your Home Off the Market!
- 01/23/09 04:29 PM
What? A Realtor telling a Seller to get their home off the market? Not convincing them to "List with me?" YES. If you don't HAVE TO SELL your home right now, this is not the time to test the market. Unless you are ready to price your home for market value TODAY and not market value a year or even two months ago, then please don't add to the glut of homes for sale. Why, you ask? 1. Jacksonville has 12,937 homes on the market, down from 14,081 in September 2008. 11,257 are single family homes. 1,076 are townhomes. The rest are (18 comments)

Every two years, the Jacksonvile Naval Air Station hosts the Blue Angels. The Blue Angels were founded here and there's always a big turnout even on a cloudy day. Low cloud cover forced the Angels to switch their normal routine.
Most of our family went by boat, anchoring out in the St. Johns River in front of the Base. Hundreds of families were there enjoying the day and watching the show.
