Tonight is the night!  Enjoy "Aurora 2015," an over the top open-air art event that will blanket the Dallas Arts District with colorful light. Imagine the ultimate contemporary art display using the Arts District as a back drop.  The interactive event will stretch from Routh Street to St. Paul and Ross Avenue to Woodall Rogers Freeway, including Klyde Warren Park.  Over eighty artists from around the world are participating in "Aurora 2015."
This FREE event coincides with Late Night at the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA), 'Til Midnight at the Nasher Sculpture Center, and The Crow Collection of Asian Art.

Saturday is predicted to be 55° and sunny!  What a perfect day to enjoy the Nasher Sculpture Center's First Saturday activities with your entire family.  Sponsored by Target, this is a Free event.  The Nasher is open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and activities are scheduled from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  This event is designed for children from preschool age to elementary school.
Extra tour guides will be on hand to lead Family Tours from 10:15 to 12:15.

Nasher Sculpture Center First Saturday   Saturday, February 2, is First Saturday at the Nasher Sculpture Center. Sponsored by Target, First Saturday is a good opportunity to gather up friends and family and enjoy time at the Nasher.   This Saturday, children's activities begin at 10:00 AM. Kids of all ages will have the opportunity to create Glow in the Dark Mobiles. One of my favorite activities for kids is the Scavenger Hunt. Today, the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) presented Dallas art lovers, with the gift of Free General Admission beginning January 21, 2013! In addition, the DMA announced a new membership program. The goal of the new membership program is to make the Dallas Museum of Art more accessible to a larger number of art lovers.   The DMA is introducing a program called DMA Friends to recognize those who participate in activities offered by the Dallas Museum of Art.  LATE NIGHTS AT THE DMA!
This Friday night, the third Friday of the month, is Late Night at the Dallas Museum of Art. 
Children will enjoy the animals visiting the DMA from the Dallas Zoo.  All animals will be from North America to coincide with the Museum exhibit, "Art of the American Indians: The Thaw Collection."
The amazing sound of the five piece band Seryn will fill the galleries. The talented musicians play bass, ukulele, guitars, viola and accordion. This Denton, Texas based band is destined for the big time. Come and hear thier beautiful music.

Fans of American Arts and Crafts furniture are looking forward to the opening of Gustav Stickley and the American Arts & Crafts Movement, at the Dallas Musum of Art.  The exhibit will be open to the public from February 13 - May 8, 2011. 
Stickley furniture has been considered collector quality since 1900.  The Stickley family built solid wood Arts and Crafts styled furniture to transend generations.  Their designs were known for quartersawn white oak, well constructed drawers, clear dyes, and hand finishes.  Today the Stickley tradition is being carried on by the Audi Family, in Manlius, New York.

Did you know that on selected days each month you can visit the Dallas Museum of Art, with a child, between the ages of three and five years old, for an interactive art experience? Members of the Museum Staff work with one group limited to 15 adults and 15 children.
At the time of this post, there is still room on January 12 and January 13, to join the experience, "From Ordinary to Extraordinary."

Thursday evening, the Dallas Museum of Art presents "Thursday Night Live."  From 5-9, members and students with IDs receive free general admission to the Museum.  General admission is $10 or less.  Jazz can be enjoyed in the Atrium.  Food and beverages can be purchased at the Atrium Café. The Museum will showcase the "Tenor Madness Concert," with Texas tenors paying tribute to Marchel Ivery.
In addition, artists Magdalena Grohman and Brian Fridge will hold a creativity workshop designed to stimulate your imagination in the Museum's "Center for Creative Connections".  The cost of this activity is included with your general admission.

Dallas Arts District Walking Tour - November 7, 2009
The Dallas Arts District, covering approximately 68 acres in downtown Dallas, is currently the largest urban arts district in the United States. On the first and third Saturdays of the month, you can take a guided tour of the District, at 10:00 AM.  The 90 minute outdoor architecture walking tour begins at the ceremonial entrance to the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA), located at Flora and Harwood.  Tours are $10.00/adult, $8.00/Dallas Arts District Members and AIA Members, and $5.00/students.  Children under the age of 12 are free when accompanied by an adult.

Did you know that the Crow Collection of Asian Art is free?
Come to the Dallas Arts District and visit the Crow Collection of Asian Art: a jewel box of art, from China, Japan, India, and Southeast Asia.  Admission to the museum is free for all.  The Crow Collection offers a free, docent guided tour of the permanent collection every Thursday, at 6:30 PM and Saturday, at 1:00 PM.  Special tours can be arranged for individuals and small groups.  The docents are knowledgeable and fun at this museum.  The tours are engaging for all ages.
