christmas decorating idea: Easy & Inexpensive DIY Christmas Decorating Ideas - 12/07/18 07:43 AM
The holidays are a very busy time for everyone,
so I will keep this Christmas decor tip very short and simple...

Rather than throw away (or donate) your old Christmas decorations, sometimes you can still use them if you give them a new look.
I was visiting my parents in Florida recently and I found a sad looking old Christmas wreath and small stash of ornaments in their garage.
Dad was planning on throwing them away.

Arts and Crafts time!

The wreath had factory attached lights on it that no longer worked
so Dad's job was to remove them.
Once Dad was done with the lights, … (31 comments)

christmas decorating idea: Reduce The Stress of Holiday Decorating - Keep It Simple - 12/11/17 05:53 AM
Since it's that time of year for decorating our homes for the season, I thought I would share some of my favorite past Christmas tips and ideas for decking the halls.

Whenever possible I use what I have on hand to create holiday decor.
Tree branches are a really easy resource for Christmas decorating. Whether you leave them natural or paint them is up to you. It's really easy to make them whatever color you want using spray paint.

For Outside:
You can use a blend of bare tree branches, greens and berries you collect from your yard, if you are lucky enough to have … (41 comments)

christmas decorating idea: Meet The Star and The Supporting Cast of My Home's Christmas Decor - 12/10/15 09:16 PM
Tis the season to deck the halls, and my halls are finally decked!
As Christmas decorating goes, I keep it fairly simple.  I guess like everything else, it's all relative. Compared to some my decorating is probably over the top....compared to others, it's understated. I like a little Christmas in each room.
The star of my holiday decor has always been the tree. I'm one of those "must be the perfect tree" fanatics.
My ornaments and decorating style really haven't changed in many years, but the size of the tree has changed depending on the amount of space available. My current home has high … (57 comments)

christmas decorating idea: Easy and Inexpensive Way To Create Home Decor Using Tree Branches - 12/06/15 09:46 PM
There is one corner of my living room that was in need of some Christmas color. I was planning on buying a Poinsettia to fill the spot.
Yesterday I decided to hunt around the house and see if I could find anything I could use instead of heading out to the store.
I decided to start with a metal vase from my dining room that was recently replaced for the season with Christmas decor.
I added some faux floral pieces, but it still needed height to fill the corner.
I walked around the yard and collected some tree branches.
I used a dark bronze spray … (56 comments)

christmas decorating idea: Making a Decorative Holiday Plate, Platter, or Bowl Using Candy Mints - 12/18/14 10:30 PM
I saw this idea on The Chew.... It's a quick and inexpensive way to make a holiday serving plate, bowl or platter.
All you need is a bag or two of Starlight Mints, a baking sheet and some parchment paper.

Preheat your oven to  300°
Place parchment paper on baking sheet.
Arrange the mints on paper-covered baking sheet, in whatever shape you want, with mints about 1/4" apart.

Bake for 5-7 minutes, watching closely to make sure they don't burn.
Remove from oven and let sit 30 seconds to cool a bit.
You can trim edges at this point.  My edges were thin, so I gently nudged them towards … (45 comments)

christmas decorating idea: Beautiful and Impressive Christmas Bows Made From Wrapping Paper - 12/12/14 12:44 AM
It's gift wrapping time again!

I found this video on YouTube for handmade gift bows last year and shared it. I think it's worth sharing again this year.
These bows are so easy to make, and they are really beautiful. The thing I like most is that they are so unique.
The bows are made from scrap pieces of wrapping paper.  You can use the same paper you used for the package or you can use a different, coordinating paper.
Give it a try....you won't be disappointed!

christmas decorating idea: Christmas Decorating - New Use For Your Old Artificial Christmas Tree - 12/07/14 09:59 PM
Every year right after Thanksgiving I gather bare tree branches and greens to use for exterior seasonal decorating.  Finding the branches is easy, but the greens have always been harder to find.
This year I had the idea to "go green" with my greens.  Rather than finding and cutting, I decided to repurpose an old artificial Christmas tree my son had in his basement.
The artificial tree branches supplied me with more than I needed for decorating for the winter season. In the spring I will store the branches in a plastic tote to be used again next year.

Christmas Decorating Idea:  Transforming Wall Art For The Holidays
My plan this year was to simplify the Christmas decorating.  You know what they say about the best laid plans.
I'm a New Hampshire Home Stager and transformation is what I do... I can't help myself.  I keep finding new projects and I'm starting to wonder if I will ever be done!
I came up with this idea that, even for me, is a bit over the top.  I figured I would share it because there must be other over zealous nut cases like me who will find the idea useful.
After all my effort to create beautiful Christmas … (30 comments)

christmas decorating idea: New Life For Your Old Balls! Paint Christmas Ornaments For A New Look - 12/10/12 08:04 PM
New Life For Your Old Balls! Paint Christmas Ornaments For A New Look

As a New Hampshire Home Stager I usually find myself having to make use of limited materials on hand.  Why should Christmas at my own home be any different?
They are cheap, plastic, and gold....but, that doesn't mean my old ornaments are no longer useful.  Before heading out to buy new ones, I figured it was worth trying to revive these old balls.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained...

I used what I had on hand...platinum metallic fabric paint, iridescent bronze acrylic, and black acrylic.
(I wasn't sure about using the "fabric" paint on plastic, … (44 comments)

New Hampshire Home Stager Shares Simple Christmas Decorating Ideas
No need to get overwhelmed when it comes to decorating your home for the holidays.  The best thing about Christmas decorating is that you can create a great look using what you already have.
You don't have to be a Home Stager to decorate your house for Christmas.  Spend some time online or reading  magazines and determine the look you want and the colors you want to use.
Pull out all your past Christmas decorations....you probably have forgotten many of the pieces you have and will be surprised how easily they can be repurposed.
Here's how I decorated … (28 comments)

christmas decorating idea: From Thanksgiving Centerpiece To Christmas Centerpiece - 11/28/10 06:55 AM
I didn't have much time to devote to an elaborate Fall, Thanksgiving centerpiece this year, so I did the best I could with what I had.  It actually turned out pretty nice.
I brought some branches in from outside and placed them in red glasses.
I used decorative wooden berries to hold the branches in place.  Added a cake plate for height and ceramic pumpkin candles for the finishing touch.

The best part is....
with a little tweaking it transformed very easily into a winter, Christmas centerpiece.
I simply replaced the pumpkin candles with ornaments and added some "snow" (cotton stuffing) to the top of each glass.

This idea works well on a larger … (26 comments)

christmas decorating idea: A Fun Vegetable Centerpiece For Your Holiday Party Platter - 12/14/09 10:06 AM
Here is a fun way to give your veggie platter a little more personality this holiday season.
Who says snowmen have to be made with snow?
Surprise your guests with a mini snowman made of cauliflower.
Looks great on any platter with any assortment of appetizers.

Assemble his body using toothpicks to hold it together.
I used toothpicks for this guy's arms, but rosemary branches would look even better.
I used whole cloves for the eyes, mouth, and buttons.  Carrot was used for his hat.

christmas decorating idea: A New Way To Display Your Christmas Cards - 12/07/09 05:54 AM
It's that time of year again.
Christmas cards on the mantel, taped around doorways, piled up in baskets.
Looking for a new way to display the cards you receive this year?
Here is an idea I discovered last year...it looks great and it's easy to add new cards as they are received.
The cards are attached to ribbon which can hang pretty much anywhere you wish.
It is really easy and fast, and more importantly, the cards can be seen and appreciated all season.
It's nice having access to the inside of the cards too!
My ribbon is attached to the top of a window, using a tack, but you could hang … (19 comments)

christmas decorating idea: An Easy and Decorative Way To Display Christmas Cards - 12/18/08 12:52 PM
Christmas cards on the mantel, taped around doorways, piled up in baskets.
People display Christmas cards in many different ways.  I recently read in a magazine (don't remember which one) an idea to tape the cards to a ribbon and hang the ribbon on the wall.

I decided to hang my cards on the window.
I was surprised at how much I liked it.

It was really easy and fast, and more importantly, the cards are being seen and appreciated, instead of sitting in a basket like I've done the last few years.

Instead of using tape to attach the card to the ribbon, I cut a slit … (20 comments)
