mn: Now this is a Sweet Letter! Home Staging Training Minneapolis MN - 05/01/13 08:50 AM
Now this is a Sweet Letter!

Home Staging Training Minneapolis MN.
I received this letter yesterday and I just had to share it. Read to the bottom...you may know the writer!
Dear Shar,

I know it's been a few months since I took your APSD Pro-Stager class, but I just had to take a moment to say thank you!  I waited to do so only because I had to be sure … (10 comments)

mn: I Wish You A Slice of Heaven this Summer.....Even if It is Only for a Day. - 06/16/11 01:33 PM
I Wish You A Slice of Heaven this Summer.....Even if It is Only for a Day.
There are little slices of Heaven all over this magnificent earth. I hope this summer you take the time to enjoy one of them even if it is just for a day.
I just got back from an overnight getaway. My sister lives in Arizona and was spending this week visiting our Mom in Fargo, ND. I was going to head to Fargo too but but I came up with the idea of meeting "sort of" in-between.
It was a three hour drive for each of us and we went … (29 comments)

mn: The Wine Shop is Open! A Design Project in St. Paul, MN - 01/18/11 12:40 AM
The Wine Shop is Open! This was a wonderful Design Project I had the privilege to work on.
In November I wrote a post that I had been hired to help Design a Wine Shop and wondering if I should barter for my fee. No....I did not barter 'design for wine' but I have already purchased a few bottles!
The Shop opened right after Thanksgiving and business is thriving.
One thing the owner was able to do was put in a window in the back of the store. How is that for opening up the space! The window looks down 30 feet to the Mississippi River. … (17 comments)

mn: Vacant Home Staging, Golden Valley, MN - From Cold to Cozy and Charming! - 09/22/10 01:31 AM
Rooms With Style was recently called to complete a vacant home staging in this newly refurbished and updated home in Golden Valley, MN. The home is stunning with beautiful detailing.
The problem was the buyer could not differentiate between the living area and the dining area. Although the wiring had been completed, the builder chose to not add a dining room light fixture so the new home owner could place it exactly where they wanted it. Great idea but it did leave some confusion.
The dining space is small but appears so much smaller when it is vacant. The living area is also small making it … (19 comments)

mn: When You Have A Weird Space in a House......Show the Buyer Something They Can Do with It! - 09/13/10 01:34 AM
Many houses have them, a weird space that when it is empty you don't have a clue what you would do with it. Show the buyer SOMETHING they can do with it.
I have had a few of these lately during vacant home stagings. Here are three examples where I had to stand, stare at it and wonder.......what shall it be??

I do not have a before picture of this first one, but you'll get the idea. Small corner in a kitchen not big enough for a bistro table. What shall it be? How about a little desk to hold Cook … (21 comments)

mn: Who can Resist Before and After Pictures? A Vacant Home Staging, Minneapolis, MN - 08/30/10 07:59 AM
Don't you love before and after pictures? I do. That must be why I watch so my HGTV and am a Designer and Home Stager.
I got the prevledge to stage this vacant home a few days ago that is an incredible house. It is only a few blocks from Lake Nokomis and has so many upgrades.
The full potential of the home was being missed when it was vacant. Although good bones, there were a few spots that could leave a buyer bored.
The buyer was originally greeted by a dark living room. No overheads lights and the blinds were shut so it … (24 comments)

mn: Rolling......Rolling.......Rolling on the River......... - 08/29/10 04:51 AM
So hopefully Tina's song is crashing through your brain (where it will remain for the rest of the day by the way) as you view these pictures of my roll down the river yesterday.

My husband and I took a sight seeing cruise on a Paddleboat down the Mississippi River and what a glorious day.

We left from downtown St. Paul, traveled south under the High Bridge, and on past many sights. The old Schmidt Brewery, the split of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers and on down to Fort Snelling.

mn: Attract More Tenants - First Impressions of the Property are Key: A Redesign Project in Minneapolis, MN - 08/19/10 04:27 AM
Attract More Tenants - First Impressions are key. If you are a property manager of an apartment complex the most important thing is keeping the apartments full. 100% occupancy is your goal.
What if your property is in a very young and hip area but what the potential tenant sees upon entry is this:

A tired and worn out entry may not set the tone of who your target market is for the area which is young professionals. The first impression is important so this may attract more tenants to your property:

Here are more before and after pictures of the apartment entryway … (19 comments)

mn: Can I Toot my Own Horn? - 07/16/10 01:54 AM
Is it okay to toot my own horn? I feel a little weird about it but if I don't...who will?
I found out yesterday that I have been selected as a Semi-Finalist to be one of the next Top MyKirkland's Designers! Yeah!! How cool is that!!
After all the applications they have narrowed it down to 20. Now I have to go through a 30 minute interview with the corporate office in Nashville. The top 10 will be selected and then America will be able to vote online with Five Designers being Selected. I'm counting on my AR friends to vote. But only if … (27 comments)

mn: It's NOT ALL ABOUT THE TV! - 07/07/10 01:32 AM
When selling a home, it's NOT ALL ABOUT THE TV!
I walk into more and more homes for home staging where the TV takes up half the room, at least one entire wall. Then, all the furniture is positioned for perfect viewing of the TV. Okay for living, not for selling.
When I make the suggestion that the TV needs to be removed while the house is for sale I am usually met with a smile from the wife and an aghast look from the husband. Don't get me wrong, I am not asking to remove the TV from every room in the house, … (24 comments)

mn: Home Staging Tips - Inexpensive Bathroom Upgrades make the difference in Maple Grove, MN - 06/30/10 08:51 AM
Home Staging Tips - Inexpensive Bathroom Upgrades make the difference in Maple Grove, MN. When I suggested a few easy tips during a Home Staging Consulation to update this Maple Grove bathroom I knew it would make a difference and it did.
This bathroom was stuck in the 80's and needed to be updated for as few dollars as possible. The homeowner was a hard worker and ready to do what it took to sell his house.
A little sweat equity to take down the wallpaper, less than $30 on a light fixture instead of a Hollywood light bar, and … (26 comments)

mn: My favorite spot in MN to watch Fireworks! - 06/29/10 03:27 PM
There are a lot of awesome places to watch fireworks but the best by far in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area is The Liffy Irish Pub. As they call it "St. Paul's Spirited Irish Pub".
Located across the street from the Xcel Energy Center and adjoining the Holiday Inn, The Liffy is a roof top pub with great food and great atmosphere.
My favorite item on the menu is the Cheese Plate. It is not just two squares of cheese like most places, it is more cheese than you can eat and you may be taking some home. The chutney served with … (4 comments)

mn: New Carpet or Carpet Allowance? - 06/23/10 07:40 AM
New Carpet or Carpet Allowance? This is a question I face when I meet with clients to do a home staging consultation or any home staging service for their home. I find that most clients do not want to spend the money up front to buy new carpet much less have the hassle of moving all the furniture. It is easier for them to give a carpet allowance or reduce the price. I understand that but I cannot say I agree. What I find is that many times the buyer cannot get past the ugly or worn carpet. It sends an instant … (29 comments)

mn: Let There Be Light - Literally! - 06/18/10 08:34 AM
As a home stager my mantra is "let there be light". I cannot believe how many homes I walk into that have one overhead light in a room which has one 60 watt bulb in the fixture.
I am not sure how they function with so little light but that is not my concern. My concern is getting their house sold and I tell them "you can never have too much light". Well, I suppose you can if it is a huge florescent fixture with four florescent bulbs but type of lighting is a whole other topic!
Whether I am doing a home staging … (14 comments)

mn: Home Staging - Minneapolis, MN - 06/16/10 05:53 AM
This home staging in Minneapolis, MN was so much fun! This beautiful home in south Minneapolis, MN was totally renovated and a second story added to it.
She selected three stagers to provide bids and then took a look at our actual work. I was lucky enough to be chosen as the stager to stage this property.
The owner had already selected the great colors and trendy shabby chic light fixtures. I was so excited to do this project.
When the owner returned at the end of the staging day she started to cry, she said it was more than she ever … (11 comments)
