redesign: Area Rug Rules for Living Rooms

Well the great thing about area rug rules is that you can break them! Really, it does come down to personal preference for both size and style but I want to address some common size options that you have. Although it is personal preference, I do believe there are times when a room can look odd if the area rug is placed wrong or if it isn't the correct size. I LOVE to take old things and make them new again. I don't have much time to do so but this one I just couldn't pass up. I ran into my local Goodwill store to buy some coffee table books for an upcoming vacant home staging job and on my way back to the book section look what I found!

redesign: The Social Room is Done and It's Time for a Party!

The Social Room at this large apartment complex in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN is done! Do you think we can rent it for a party?? Oh, I guess we have to be a tenant. I was hired to Redesign a new social room for one of the properties of a large management company. After gutting and redesigning their model apartment unit, then their offices, then another social room at a different complex....we finally got started on this one. redesign: Can I Toot my Own Horn?

Is it okay to toot my own horn? I feel a little weird about it but if I don't...who will? I found out yesterday that I have been selected as a Semi-Finalist to be one of the next Top MyKirkland's Designers! Yeah!! How cool is that!! After all the applications they have narrowed it down to 20. Now I have to go through a 30 minute interview with the corporate office in Nashville. The top 10 will be selected and then America will be able to vote online with Five Designers being Selected. I'm counting on my AR friends to vote. But only if … (27 comments)
redesign: Let There Be Light - Literally!

As a home stager my mantra is "let there be light". I cannot believe how many homes I walk into that have one overhead light in a room which has one 60 watt bulb in the fixture. I am not sure how they function with so little light but that is not my concern. My concern is getting their house sold and I tell them "you can never have too much light". Well, I suppose you can if it is a huge florescent fixture with four florescent bulbs but type of lighting is a whole other topic! Whether I am doing a home staging … (14 comments)
