redesign in minneapolis: Turning Junk into Jazzy Treasure!
- 07/19/18 08:43 AM
Well....okay it maybe wasn't actually junk but it was buried under a pile of old rusted pails and tools when I found it. I wish I had a picture of it that day as I found it. Anyway...I saw a very 'rustic' table sitting outside of an antique store that was basically blocks of 2 x 4s nailed together with an old picket fence nailed to the back. Here are a couple photos once I got it home and cleaned up. Nothing pretty that's for sure. It technically was put together to be a gardening bench. A old rusted shovel and bin attached to

redesign in minneapolis: Re-Purposing to Create Amazing Succulent Arrangements! Home Staging MN
- 10/04/17 01:56 PM
If you haven't noticed, succulents are really in right now. There are even stores having succulent parties to pick your containers and plant them right at the store. I do like them and although it is really tough to kill a succulent, I can do it. This real one sat in my Mom's condo unattended when she was in the nursing home for over a year and was fine and healthy. When she passed away I took it home and now it looks like this. So I went to Plan B. The fake succulents are so incredibly real that I knew they were

redesign in minneapolis: Area Rug Rules for Living Rooms
- 11/16/16 09:36 PM
Well the great thing about area rug rules is that you can break them! Really, it does come down to personal preference for both size and style but I want to address some common size options that you have. Although it is personal preference, I do believe there are times when a room can look odd if the area rug is placed wrong or if it isn't the correct size. Let's look at the main living area of the home such as the living room or family room. Option 1: The rug comes up to the front edge of all furniture. In this option

- 07/18/11 01:40 AM
I am Now a DCC!! And of Course I Had to Reward Myself! Yes....I just completed my training and received my DCC certification. No, not Doctor of Chiropractic, that is a DC. This is much better! Dewey Color Consultant!! How Fun Is That! Yes, I went throught the two day class to learn now to put together 25,000 color combinations and make no mistakes. I learned so much. "We Make Color Easy"! Undertones. Blends. Neutral blends. Split Compliments. Triadic Color Schemes. Achromatic Color Schemes. What if my client wants a triadic color scheme with a neutral blend? Is that okay?? Now

redesign in minneapolis: What Does Your Place of Business Say About You? Home Staging / Redesign in Minneapolis, MN
- 06/24/11 01:52 AM
What Does Your Place of Business Say About You? Home Staging / Redesign in Minneapolis, MN. It doesn't matter where it is, first impressions are always important. Yes, in homes. But what about places of business? I believe a first impression in your office is extremely important. It tells everyone who you are. It tells clients, employees, and even vendors. What is greeting people when they walk into your place of business? Is the place for them to sit and wait something like this? Forcing them to sit close to someone they don't know? Leaving them to wonder if your ideas are as outdated

redesign in minneapolis: The Fabric that Proved Candice Should Hire Me - Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis, MN
- 06/22/11 02:11 AM
The Fabric that Proved Candice Should Hire Me - Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis, MN. Last month I did a post entitled: "There is No Doubt In My Mind That Candice Should Hire Me". As many of you know Candice Olson is my favorite designer and I love her new show "Candice Tells All". She explains her inspiration piece behind each design project and shows the mistakes and mishaps as well as the good. As my post described, on one particular show she was designing her Mom's porch and the fabric she selected was the fabric I had already purchased to

redesign in minneapolis: Is It Ever Okay to Paint a Room Stark White? Home Staging and Redesign in Minneapolis, MN
- 06/20/11 02:27 AM
Is It Ever Okay to Paint a Room Stark White? Home Staging and Redesign in Minneapolis, MN You know us home stagers, one of our motto's is "Neutral Does Not Mean White". We are always telling our clients: "Paint the room a warm color, it's okay to go a little darker, don't worry." So, I ask again, is it ever okay to Paint a Room Stark White? "Maybe". Ha, Don't You Love That Answer. But seriously, rooms can be all white, soft ivory, etc. It is all in how they are finished off and their purpose. When I say white I

redesign in minneapolis: Are Your Kitchen Cabinets Dated but You Don't Have Thousands of Dollars for New? - Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis, MN.
- 06/14/11 02:11 AM
Are Your Kitchen Cabinets Dated but You Don't Have Thousands of Dollars for New? Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis, MN. As a Designer and Home Stager I come across many kitchens that need updating. Many homeowners want to update their kitchens, either for gaining top dollar when selling or for their own enjoyment. I can't say it enough, "KITCHENS SELL HOMES". Period. A total kitchen update costs tens of thousands of dollars and if you are staying in your home it is okay, spend the money and enjoy it. If you are selling you may be wondering the best place to spend your money to

redesign in minneapolis: The Most Common Mistakes I See in People's Homes - Part 2
- 05/13/11 12:58 AM
The Most Common Mistakes I See in People's Homes - Part 2 Previously I shared a common mistake I see in many homes in Part 1 of this Common Mistake Series. As a Home Stager and Designer I see hundreds of homes. Don't beat yourself up if you are doing any of these mistakes. That is the reason I call them "common" mistakes. The second most common mistake I see in homes is: Not enough lamps Ceiling lights do not replace the need for lamps. If you are selling your home lamps are needed to bring more light into a room,

redesign in minneapolis: The Most Common Mistakes I See in People's Homes - Part 1
- 05/11/11 01:44 AM
The Most Common Mistakes I See in People's Homes - Part 1As a Designer and a Home Stager I see a lot of things in peoples homes. I see homes in all price levels from a couple hundred thousand to a few million. There are a few design and home staging mistakes I see over and over and they are so easy to fix.One of these common mistakes is: Having all the furniture pushed back to the walls. Even in a small room this is not always the best option. Usually something can be angled or pulled forward. In

redesign in minneapolis: There is No Doubt in My Mind That Candice Should Hire Me.
- 05/09/11 02:22 AM
There is No Doubt in My Mind That Candice Should Hire Me. I have always thought it but now I have my proof. Candice Olson needs me on her Design team. As some of you may know, Candice Olson is my favorite designer and has her own show on HGTV. Her new program is called "Candice Tells All" and she gets a little more into how she is inspired than her previous show "Devine Design". On her latest show that just aired Saturday she designed an open kitchen, solarium and dining room for her Mom. A touching moment of love from

redesign in minneapolis: Making Artwork - Is It As Easy As They Make It Look On TV? Home Staging and Redesign Tips in Minneapolis, MN
- 04/18/11 12:58 AM
Making Artwork - Is It As Easy as It Looks on TV? Home Staging and Redesign Tips in Minneapolis, MN That's what I wanted to know. I am a skeptic of sorts and I watch Home Staging and Redesign shows on TV on which they make their own artwork. They always say it is so easy. But is it? And of course they always tell you how cheap it is. But is it? So on a whim I put it to a test. I was buying fabric to recover my dining room chairs and on the clearance shelves were dozens

redesign in minneapolis: Inexpensive Redesign Tips - Redesign in Minneapolis, MN
- 04/12/11 02:18 AM
Inexpensive Redesign Tips - Redesign in Minneapolis, MN A client asked for my help in jazzing up her living room. She had great basic pieces but wasn't sure what else to do. Before: The space was light and airy which was great. The monochromatic scheme is very tranquil but she wanted a change. Best way to do that.....COLOR! She already had a great paint color on her walls so the cheapest way to add color in this case was throw pillows and a colorful area rug. On our shopping day we first found our inspiration

redesign in minneapolis: How To Create an Outdoor Living Space: Ideas and Inspiration (Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis, MN)
- 04/08/11 01:15 AM
How to Create an Outdoor Living Space: Ideas and Inspiration. (Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis, MN) In my personal opinion outdoor square footage is as valuable as the indoor square footage in the Spring, Summer and Fall. It is a space so valuable to me I can't imagine not making it as cozy as a room in my home. When you go to sell your house of course it is not "counted" as square footage but can it add value in the buyer's eyes? Absolutely. They see it as another living space already done for them and most people love the outdoors,

redesign in minneapolis: It's All about Pink for 2011 - They Say Even Guys Love It....Guys is this True?
- 03/21/11 01:45 AM
It's all about pink for 2011. Whether in fashion or home decor it's any and every shade of pink. In one of my upscale Designer magazines they said "even men love a pink room".Hmmm????? So, I asked my husband. He is secure, wears a pink golf shirt once in a while, he has a long sleeve button down pink Ralph Lauren business shirt. "Honey, would it be okay if I re-did one of our rooms in pink"? "NO". I had no trouble hearing that one. I'm not crazy about pink in decor either. A little girls princess room

redesign in minneapolis: The Wine Shop is Open! A Design Project in St. Paul, MN
- 01/18/11 12:40 AM
The Wine Shop is Open! This was a wonderful Design Project I had the privilege to work on. In November I wrote a post that I had been hired to help Design a Wine Shop and wondering if I should barter for my fee. No....I did not barter 'design for wine' but I have already purchased a few bottles! The Shop opened right after Thanksgiving and business is thriving. One thing the owner was able to do was put in a window in the back of the store. How is that for opening up the space! The window looks down 30 feet to the Mississippi River.

redesign in minneapolis: Well That Was A Wonderful Way to End My Day - Successful Redesign in Minneapolis, MN!
- 01/10/11 12:11 PM
I just got home from a tiring day; running all over the metro to take "before" photos, appointments, tax forms to pick up, post office, and all of it in bad traffic and slick roads due to a nuisance snow fall. I hadn't had time to check my Blackberry so when I opened my email I was thrilled to find the following testimonial: "Our family decided to turn our unfinished basement into a family room. We didn't really have a vision for the room - nor did we know how to break up the space, We thought about getting an

redesign in minneapolis: Don't....I Repeat Don't Let Your Husband Decorate with a Gift He Received from His Bachelor Brother
- 01/07/11 02:16 AM
No offense men, really. But a lamp from a Bachelor Brother may not be the best decorating item. My husband finally got around to unpacking his Christmas gifts after getting back from vacation this week. One I was hoping would stay in the box. It doesn't matter that the room is his office, which normally he could decorate any way he chooses, but the room is right inside the front door and a HUGE window faces the street. So.....you have all seen the classic movie "The Christmas Story" with the infamous lamp prize received in the mail. What did the husband do???.......He put it

redesign in minneapolis: The Social Room is Done and It's Time for a Party!
- 11/10/10 08:03 AM
The Social Room at this large apartment complex in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN is done! Do you think we can rent it for a party?? Oh, I guess we have to be a tenant. I was hired to Redesign a new social room for one of the properties of a large management company. After gutting and redesigning their model apartment unit, then their offices, then another social room at a different complex....we finally got started on this one. We took out one of the sliding glass doors to close off traffic flow through the sitting area. We also put in new smaller windows along the wall overlooking the pool

redesign in minneapolis: Attract More Tenants - First Impressions of the Property are Key: A Redesign Project in Minneapolis, MN
- 08/19/10 04:27 AM
Attract More Tenants - First Impressions are key. If you are a property manager of an apartment complex the most important thing is keeping the apartments full. 100% occupancy is your goal. What if your property is in a very young and hip area but what the potential tenant sees upon entry is this: A tired and worn out entry may not set the tone of who your target market is for the area which is young professionals. The first impression is important so this may attract more tenants to your property: Here are more before and after pictures of the apartment entryway
