Here are some Home Staging Statistics you will love, just in time for Valentines Day!

In the most recent study of  634 homes (both vacant and occupied), done by the Real Estate Staging Association, they found that:
Un-staged homes spent an average of 107 days on the market. After staging, these homes sold on average in 25 days. Homeowners had their home on the market an average of 132 days before calling a Home Stager. Homes that were staged prior to going on the market sold on average in 18 days. staging a home: The Top 3 Staging Items to Purchase - Home Staging Minneapolis - 06/11/18 06:45 PM
Most people associate Home Staging with the dreaded 'D' word. Declutter! They think that a Home Stager will come in and tell them what they need to take out and remove.
That is part of it but most of my home staging consultations also include tips for the homeowner of items to purchase to make the home shine a little brighter. There are three top items I seem to always be recommending. These three things are not updates to the house or upgrades. They are items that you can take with you when the home sells.
1. New Towels
New towels are the best … (13 comments)

staging a home: Check Out This Cute House - A Fun Home Staging in Minneapolis, MN - 02/15/11 08:51 AM
What a fun time I had staging this vacant home in south Minneapolis, MN. It is such a cute house! Staging it with a bit of fun and pizazz only made it better.
The living room may have appeared to have an awkward layout but once furniture was in there you could see how well it works. Before the fireplace was lost.....now you REALLY see it!

This is a great home for entertaining since it is wide open to the Dining Room and it has a wonderful alcove in the kitchen for overflow seating or quaint dinners … (29 comments)

staging a home: Updating a Home To Sell is A Must.......Home Staging St. Paul, MN - 01/21/11 12:25 AM
Updating a Home to Sell is a must if you want to get it sold. Here is a perfect example of that with this  Home Staging in St. Paul. MN
The owner is a 92 year old woman. She is a sweetheart and still sassy but had to move to assisted living. She had lived in this home for 60 years! How cool is that!
Many things needed to be updated but even on a tight budget we were able to make HUGE improvements.
First: Rip out the old, dirty and worn carpet. Show off the hard wood floors underneath! Hardwood floors are a … (22 comments)

staging a home: Master Bedrooms are Important Square Footage - Treat them as Such! - 09/08/10 01:22 AM
Master Bedrooms are extremely important square footage and should be treated as valuable property!
In my opinion if someone has narrowed it down to two homes to buy the deciding factor will be the Kitchen and Master Bedroom. Everyone knows "kitchens sell homes". I don't disagree. But, I think the Master Bedroom is a close second and so many sellers ignore that room. Check out this difference:

staging a home: There are Two Reasons a Home Doesn't Sell.....It's Overpriced or It's Ugly. - 07/28/10 02:15 AM
There are Two Reasons a Home Doesn't Sell.....It's Overpriced or It's Ugly. I heard this phrase on a television show on HGTV and it has always stuck in my head.
There is so much truth to this simple statement. One can say..."Well, a bad location on a busy road is why it isn't selling". True, but than the price would reflect the bad location. Someone will be willing to overlook the busy road, if it is not overpriced but rather been priced accordingly.
Or..."I refuse to buy this house as I'll be spending days removing the wallpaper". Again true, but that means the house is probably ugly. If … (28 comments)

staging a home: Home Staging......by Nature - 07/15/10 02:11 AM
What a wonderful site I just came upon, a beautifully staged home in my backyard. I could not have done it better myself.
I bought this cute birdhouse for my enjoyment and to complete a cute vignette in one of my flower gardens. I had doubts that any bird would actually make a home in it. What I found today was amazing. Inside is the most perfectly constructed nest, just the right size for the home and large enough to hold a small family.
Even the curb appeal is perfect. Tiny little twigs placed on the porch to invite the little ones to sit and enjoy … (11 comments)

staging a home: It's NOT ALL ABOUT THE TV! - 07/07/10 01:32 AM
When selling a home, it's NOT ALL ABOUT THE TV!
I walk into more and more homes for home staging where the TV takes up half the room, at least one entire wall. Then, all the furniture is positioned for perfect viewing of the TV. Okay for living, not for selling.
When I make the suggestion that the TV needs to be removed while the house is for sale I am usually met with a smile from the wife and an aghast look from the husband. Don't get me wrong, I am not asking to remove the TV from every room in the house, … (24 comments)

staging a home: Home Staging Tips - Inexpensive Bathroom Upgrades make the difference in Maple Grove, MN - 06/30/10 08:51 AM
Home Staging Tips - Inexpensive Bathroom Upgrades make the difference in Maple Grove, MN. When I suggested a few easy tips during a Home Staging Consulation to update this Maple Grove bathroom I knew it would make a difference and it did.
This bathroom was stuck in the 80's and needed to be updated for as few dollars as possible. The homeowner was a hard worker and ready to do what it took to sell his house.
A little sweat equity to take down the wallpaper, less than $30 on a light fixture instead of a Hollywood light bar, and … (26 comments)

staging a home: New Carpet or Carpet Allowance? - 06/23/10 07:40 AM
New Carpet or Carpet Allowance? This is a question I face when I meet with clients to do a home staging consultation or any home staging service for their home. I find that most clients do not want to spend the money up front to buy new carpet much less have the hassle of moving all the furniture. It is easier for them to give a carpet allowance or reduce the price. I understand that but I cannot say I agree. What I find is that many times the buyer cannot get past the ugly or worn carpet. It sends an instant … (29 comments)

staging a home: Let There Be Light - Literally! - 06/18/10 08:34 AM
As a home stager my mantra is "let there be light". I cannot believe how many homes I walk into that have one overhead light in a room which has one 60 watt bulb in the fixture.
I am not sure how they function with so little light but that is not my concern. My concern is getting their house sold and I tell them "you can never have too much light". Well, I suppose you can if it is a huge florescent fixture with four florescent bulbs but type of lighting is a whole other topic!
Whether I am doing a home staging … (14 comments)

staging a home: Home Staging - Minneapolis, MN - 06/16/10 05:53 AM
This home staging in Minneapolis, MN was so much fun! This beautiful home in south Minneapolis, MN was totally renovated and a second story added to it.
She selected three stagers to provide bids and then took a look at our actual work. I was lucky enough to be chosen as the stager to stage this property.
The owner had already selected the great colors and trendy shabby chic light fixtures. I was so excited to do this project.
When the owner returned at the end of the staging day she started to cry, she said it was more than she ever … (11 comments)

staging a home: A Successful Home Staging in Plymouth, MN - 06/04/10 10:51 AM
This is the most Successful Home Staging in MN that I have done, in terms of quick results. I was called by a Realtor and told they had a listing for this beautiful high end rambler in Plymouth, MN.
Unfortunately the home had been listed for a year! This beautiful home in Plymouth, MN had been standing vacant the entire year and getting horrible comments about how it needed updating. Yes, there were a few things that need to be updated but all in all the bones of this home were fabulous and on a wonderful wooded lot.
This home was a prime candidate … (11 comments)

staging a home: Home Staging DOES NOT mean Deceiving the Buyer! - 06/02/10 03:59 AM
Home Staging does not mean deceiving the buyer. There are times during a home staging consultation that I have been asked how to hide something. Don't hide it, fix it!!
Home Staging can get a bad rap as many buyers, as well as Realtors, think things have been covered up, painted over, or a chair conveniently placed in front of an eye sore. Home Staging does NOT mean deceiving the buyer.
A prime example of covering up is placing an area rug over a stain on the carpet or hard wood floor. Have I ever placed a rug over these stains? … (52 comments)

staging a home: How this client did Home Staging correctly in St. Paul, MN - 04/23/10 09:21 AM
How this client did Home Staging correctly in St. Paul, MN.
Many of my clients think they should wait to do Home Staging. They think that the best plan will be to put their house on the market, see how it goes, THEN if it doesn't sell or if it gets negative feedback, they'll have it staged. Please, Stage your Home correctly from the beginning! You'll never get back those potential buyers who came through when it was a hot new listing.
So, what did my client in St. Paul do correctly? They knew Home Staging was important. They had me come through their … (0 comments)
