mortgages: Is there a Statute of Limitations on Debt? - 10/11/08 01:26 PM
I'm of the firm belief that if you borrow money, you should pay it back.  Sure, life circumstances occur and you may not be able to do so anytime soon... yet fair is fair.  If I am given money from you, I should eventually pay it back to you.  That is the right thing to do.
Yet, the loopholes are many.  If I had to do it all over again... and I just might, I would passionately study law.  I haven't been able to verify what I'm about to write (which is why I would make a bad attorney on paper), … (61 comments)

mortgages: A sense of urgency... - 09/04/08 05:39 AM
It's no secret that today's lending atmosphere is much different than from years back.  I've been seeing a few things things as of late that are a tad bit concerning.  I'll get to that in a moment.
I wrote a post  recently that outlined some basic things that the consumer can do to streamline the loan process and get to the closing table faster.  Lenders are going through files with a fine tooth comb these days.  In fact, they're scrutinizing loan files more than they ever have... at least in the seven years I've been at this gig.  Here's a few things I'm … (57 comments)

mortgages: Mortgage PRO Week in Review -- 12/31/07 through 01/06/08 - 01/08/08 01:39 AM
What better way to start the New Year than to concentrate on one of the more important subjects in our economy and in our world?  Active-Rain is blessed with many things and one of those things happens to be a lot of talented writers within the Real Estate Profession.  Here's my attempt to highlight some of the best in regards to the Mortgage Industry....

There's been a lot of non-sense thrown around with what has gone within the Industry.  And anytime you use or hear the word 'Fed'....it tends to get intimidating.  Matt Heaton wrote one of the more concise and informative tutorials on … (39 comments)

mortgages: And Christmas Came Early.... - 12/18/07 01:27 PM
In these often turbulent times in our culture, our world, & the Real Estate Industry...I wanted to write something tonight that was off the charts.  I didn't want it to be positive per se, or even negative for that matter.  I wanted it to be a total wide-eyed glimpse at the truth.  Quite frankly, I wanted to assure comfort where there is pain, peace where there remains angst.  However, the truth is....Welcome To Life.  It doesn't get easy folks, but it does get interesting.
Inspired words and stories and moments come and go, as do the less than ideal ones.  Coping is a … (30 comments)

mortgages: It's Time To Go To Work. - 12/16/07 01:58 PM
I would love to be in a better mood.  But, come on, the Steelers lost and I feel that every rational thought I had about them being one of the best teams in the National Football League was nothing more than a biased observation from a loyal fan.  Was it?  I'm not so sure.
Everyday that I watch television or drive down the road, I'm stricken with the affliction that we all have jobs to do.  That's how all this works.  I don't like having a job.  I never will.  Yet, I'm in total love with having a passion.  When I awake tomorrow, … (38 comments)

mortgages: If this were the last post I were to ever write... - 12/08/07 04:36 AM
...I would probably make it my worst.  Under-achieving is a niche in of itself:-)  I would also probably share what I consider 'Common Sense Ideals' with the majority to see, if only I could help make it a reality to all.
While dealing with the debacles of computer viruses and spam, I've finally overcome them to write words that I'm not quite sure should be written.  Words that tag my soul, my thoughts, my heart, as if forever was around the corner.  It's not....not yet.  I came here like Dan & Belushi, on a mission from God.  I'll leave when God wants … (40 comments)

mortgages: There is 'Thanks' in 'Giving'..... - 11/24/07 02:05 AM
Either you watch or you lead........Rest or Live.
When it comes down to it, I've rested way too freaking long!  But, that is personal.  So I write this because IT doesn't get more personal than this (well it does, but I see no need to bring my Father's Hemorrhoid Issue into this).
My bills are paid but my agenda is paycheck to paycheck.  I'm not inherently a Wall-Street guy or gal, yet I see the angst and feel the economic pain.  Mr Gump was right, "Money is one less thing to worry about in Life."
This is a taboo subject for many, for … (36 comments)

mortgages: How The State Of The Industry Affected My State Of Mind. - 09/04/07 02:35 PM
From The Desk Of A Full-Time Mortgage Consultant And Former Psychology Major (I graduated with a degree in B.S.)
I saw it coming (The Mortgage Market), just not as hard and volatile as it came.  My business remained good even though the industry continued down the path of turmoil.  Then, something happened that turned me and my business, for one brief moment, upside freaking down.  I bought into the perception of something I could probably never change.
When your psyche gets lost, your reality follows suit.   The psychology of how we live, why we live, and what goes down, is not only a mere figment, … (31 comments)

mortgages: That's The Way You Do It, Money For Nothing? I Don't Think So! - 08/29/07 04:30 AM
"I think I made essentially a mistake in staying in movies.  It's a mistake I can't regret, because it's like saying I shouldn't have stayed married to that woman but I did because I love her.  I would of been more successful if I left movies immediately....Stayed in theatre, gone into politics, written anything.  I have wasted the greater part of my life looking for money and trying to get along, trying to make my work from this terribly expensive paint-box, which is a movie.  And I've spent too much energy on things that have nothing to do with making a movie.  … (82 comments)

mortgages: Being A Mortgage Guy... - 07/07/07 02:05 AM
I was reminded of something on a long conversation I had with a lady yesterday and yet again after reading a recent post by David Podgursky.   I spend a large part of my life working....I do Mortgages.
Let me explain further.  There are only so many hours in a day, only so many days in a week, and only so many weeks in a year.  Yet, a lot of us spend a large amount of those hours, days, & weeks doing what we feel passionate about doing...our chosen occupation.  Sometimes, I forget to explain what I do and why I do … (29 comments)

mortgages: When Your Ego Gets In The Way... - 07/04/07 08:56 AM
I never understood the celebrity culture of bright lights and silver spoons.  I never understood why a lot of them just faded away.  I do understand that a lot of individuals reached their particular heights of greatness without a silver spoon and worked their behinds off to get there.  But, I never understood why one moment you are great, and the next, you fade away.
Every once in awhile, I write off the cuff and have no clue of what I'm going to say next.  Mark this as once of those every once in awhile's.
As the preliminary fireworks of Independence Day go … (19 comments)

mortgages: This Ain't Dodgeball, throw it against the wall and hope it sticks... - 06/28/07 05:21 PM
I had a pretty close friend of mine point out something this evening that stuck.  They said, "Jason, I know you are passionate about your career and what you do and why you do it, but your true passion doesn't seem to be Real Estate?"  "Uh oh, there goes that referral source," so I thought.  I inquired as deeply as I could to what he meant.  And so, being that friend, he told me straight up.  "Jason, your passion is writing, in any form, about any subject, you just happened to find a place where you can mix the two.  … (30 comments)

mortgages: So, how did I get here anyways? - 04/07/07 01:53 PM
I often wonder that.  I'm not talking life itself(That is a whole different ball of complex wax), but here on Active Rain.  How did Mr. Sardi end up on this Great Forum?  I'm not sure if I was invited...if I was, not sure by who?  I'm not sure if I stumbled across this fine establish by mere cyber-chance.  I'm not real sure at all.

Now, without the glasses and lipstick....I'm a man in the mortgage biz.  I've found this forum to be a very insightful look into all aspects of my chosen profession.  Of course, garnering business was my motive.  Yet, … (10 comments)

mortgages: What to expect when looking for Mortgage Financing? - 07/31/06 03:26 AM
The 'No Spin' On Mortgage Brokers

"What do mortgage brokers do?"
A mortgage broker is an independent contractor who offers the loan products of multiple lenders/investors who are called "wholesale lenders." A mortgage broker consults you on the loans available from different wholesalers for your particular situation and needs, takes your application and privy information, and usually processes the loan which involves putting together the complete file of information about your transaction including the credit report, appraisal, verification of your employment and assets, and so on. Upon a fully completed file, sometimes sooner, the lender "underwrites" the loan which means inherently deciding whether … (11 comments)
