psychology: That Place - 01/16/11 12:45 PM
I met an old friend today for lunch. She had called me and asked if I would meet her some place where we could eat a bite, then linger a while to talk. I told her I knew just the place, and after her two hour drive from Charlotte, we met at a tiny Mexican restaurant where people go more to talk than to eat. She had given me no heads up on what it was she wanted to talk about, and when we finished our lunch I finally just asked.
“Shelly, what is it, sweety? What’s up that's made you … (4 comments)

psychology: Dr. Phil is a Big Disappointment - 12/09/10 02:27 PM
Well, it’s official: I no longer like Dr. Phil.
That’s right, I feel strongly about it. When he first came on Oprah, he was practicing psychology, and, to be fair, he did so for a while when he got his own show. But now? Please. No therapist/counselor conducts them self like that. No, what he does now is pure audience entertainment – and not good entertainment at that, in my opinion.

psychology: The Two Brains >> PSY 101 Revisited - 09/14/10 01:46 PM
It is with the heart that one sees rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.
ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPERY, The Little Prince
It was a Saturday night--Sunday morning really--in early November, 1994, and Bobby Crabtree and his wife were returning home from a night out. As they entered the house they heard a noise coming from the back of the 1-story house. Mr. Crabtree, like most folks in those parts, kept a gun for just such occasions.  His 14 year old daughter, Matilda, was spending the night with a friend, so this was probably some S.O.B. just stupid enough to try to come in on … (3 comments)
